To think that kids sometimes get bruises when they play and that's just fine?

Took DS, aged eight, and best mate to a skatepark. They had so much fun! Came home filthy, sweaty and somewhat battered about the shins. Big bruises next day. Best mate's mum is not keen for them to go again due to the bruises. I think kids tend to bruise themselves when they ae having fun which they did. There was no real injury to either of them.

I have an 8,5 and 2 year old - Christ its like bruises are us here. Mainly from going down the slide on their knees, jumping into the paddling pool and landing on their shins Hmm

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 21/07/2013 18:55

God mine wake up with bruises. Every day there's a new one even if they don't do anything. How precious

breatheslowly · 21/07/2013 19:11

DD is covered in bruises of various ages and different colours. Her nursery have been a bit apologetic, but provided they don't do any lasting damage to her and she has fun, I am perfectly happy.

moggiek · 21/07/2013 19:14

YANBU. I have an absolute WHOPPER on my leg from the edge of the slide I was playing on with my grandson. I'm 54 ....

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 21/07/2013 19:14

My DS2 is covered, he has had shorts on for 3 weeks, it's inevitable tbh he also has a plaster on his elbow and one on his knee. yanbu

fluckered · 21/07/2013 19:18

she is a loon!!! ds is one big purple blob at the moment from the bruises and plasters all over his legs. however, just to note in case you weren't aware if you take responsibility of him for an outing like this and he does break something or get seriously hurt you are indeed totally responsible. just saying as don't think I would take that on ... a park or something no problem but not skateboarding at that age.

MadeOfStarDust · 21/07/2013 19:25

I fell on to my bum on the stairs last month (trying to Nerf attack my youngest DD) and currently have a whole purple buttock which is now pert and perky - just the one side though.

(and I'm in my forties) my girls are not exactly adventurous, but end up covered in lumps and bumps and bruises... it is all just part of life....

Smartieaddict · 21/07/2013 19:40

YANBU, DS comes out of school at least a couple of times a week with a sticker saying he's had first aid for some small bump or another, and a bruise or scrape to go with it. Kids need to run around, and falling over/running into their friends is part of that.

xylem8 · 21/07/2013 19:44

I suspect it's not the bruises themselves she is worried about, more that next time it could be a break

Earthworms · 21/07/2013 19:49

Gracious, I did fencing, gymnastics, judo and horse riding as well as bmx style cycling and roller skating.

And I'm clumsy.

I don't think I actually saw any undamaged skin till I was about 15.

I did break bones, but never by doing any of the above activities!

Xihha · 21/07/2013 19:56

Shock How does she expect her child to join in with the comparing bruises if she wraps him in cotton wool?

yanbu, I don't think my kids have ever come home from a day out without at least one new bruise or cut.

idobelieveinfairies · 21/07/2013 19:59

Yanbu. My children and I always have bruised, it's a sign of living and moving.

catgirl1976 · 21/07/2013 20:11

YANBU - she is being totally precious

Mrsrobertduvall · 21/07/2013 20:11

So you break an arm.
I broke mine 5 times as a child.

There are some ridiculous parents around these days.

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 21/07/2013 20:58

Yanbu. Heavily bruised shins are indicative of lots of outdoor scrambling about, biking, skating and general fun.

Twattybollocks · 21/07/2013 21:01

Yanbu, both my older kids have 2 scabbed knees, 2 scabbed elbows each and are covered in bruises from the knee to ankle. Dd1 also has a massive one on her bum cheek where she fell out of a tree the other day and a nice black eye where her brother hit her in the eye accidentally with the swingball. It's what kids do. I'd worry if they didn't have any that they weren't having enough fun!

Kithulu · 21/07/2013 21:07

my DS chipped a tooth the first time he went to skate park on his own. He hasn't been again (his choice) Sad

RenterNomad · 21/07/2013 21:13

My DS cries his head off if he hurts himself NOT having fun, but can pick himself up happily from.some really vicious tumbles if he's enjoying himself

LilacPeony · 21/07/2013 21:15

Far better to be out playing, which naturally ends in a few bruises, than to be sat on the sofa in front of a screen all day (pot kettle Grin

BinksToEnlightenment · 21/07/2013 22:49

I'm pushing thirty and my legs are covered in bruises. I have to wear concealer on my knees if I wear a short skirt.

YANBU. She needs to nut up or shut up.

SolidGoldBrass · 21/07/2013 22:50

Mind you I m 48 and usually have at least one bruise somewhere, because I am a) clumsy and b) untidy so there is quite a lot of stuff to trip over in my house.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/07/2013 23:01

ahh you lot have made me feel so much better about my children haveng bruises on their legs. they also bruise like peaches (me too) Ds throws himself around and dd is hypermobile and falls. I am always a little worried that they have too many bruises and other people children are brruise free.
