Iv been having to feed 7 week old ds lying down in bed because iv got such a bad back, normally I'm fine, I feed him and he goes straight back in his crib. Iv just fallen asleep while feeding him and when I woke up he had rolled onto his tummy.
I rolled him straight over and he seemed fine pink and asleep.
I'm worried he might have been on his face, will he be ok? He's just woken up for a feed and seemed bright and alert.
I feel like a terrible mother!

He will be absolutely fine, I promise you. You must have got a terrible fright! You probably woke as soon as he flopped onto his front. Try not to worry (easier said than done I know)

kickassangel · 21/07/2013 03:49

He sounds fine. Babies don't look fine and feed etc if there's something wrong with them.

Is there a dp there who can check that he's sleeping on his back if you fall asleep again? Better to have a second person helping if you're not well.

Dh is on a stag night tonight.. I feel wide awake now and ds is fast asleep. He's been a roller since birth but just onto his side.
I feel really shaken up.

Mine all did this and even at the ripe old ages of preteen, not yet in double figures and just out of pre schooler they all prefer to sleep like star fish on their bellies.

I understand why you have shocked yourself, I've woken on occasion to find baby snuggled in under me or such like, they are stronger than we give credit for Smile

InTheRedCorner · 21/07/2013 04:01

DH is late home isn't he? Is coming home today?

ditsydoll · 21/07/2013 04:08

Yes he's coming home (supposed to be) it's his brother's stag do..
I'll let him off though he never goes anywhere.
Ds is awake smiling at me. Seems perfectly fine. I was worried I might have starved him of oxygen or something! I'd be able to tell if he hadn't been able to breathe wouldn't I?

Yes of course you would be able to tell, Christ I've dropped mine from standing and they are still here living and breathing.

Smiles and interaction, willing to feed and general lovely babyness are all good signs x

You sound like a lovely caring mother and a very patient wife Smile

dont worry, my mum and aunt were commenting last week that the official sids guidelines when they had kids was never to put them on their back, always their front or side. it's also recommended to put coliccy babies on their tummies to help them so really really dont worry Smile

maddening · 21/07/2013 07:50

The actual lying on the front doesn't cause death - it increases the sids risk - so obviously you're doing the right thing be sleeping him on his back he won't have hurt himself sleeping on his front for a little.

I know they were bandied about on a thread as a joke a while ago, but you can buy straps for cots to hold babies on their backs....would something like this help ease your worries? I also think movement baby alarms are worth their weight in gold! Have a cup of tea, and draw a line under this.

BigW · 21/07/2013 08:14

I really wouldn't worry. Have I read it correctly? Your concern is that you're baby was on his tummy and that's all? You weren't on top of him or anything? If I have read it right then don't worry. Remember that advice used to be to lay babies on their tummies. I have always been told to put them down on their tummy and if they roll over themselves, they can roll back again. Appreciate that 7 weeks is a bit little still for this.

I have also found that the alarms save a lot of worry and agree that babies are pretty straight forward in terms of whether there is something wrong. Yoy would know.

BigW · 21/07/2013 08:15

on their back* and if they roll over...

WaitMonkey · 21/07/2013 09:52
