AIBU or is this woman a bit cheeky?

Loads of shops in my local area have run out of paddling pools and lots of people with young children are all over the selling sites making pleas for pools.

We bought one a few months ago for dd (1y.o) to use as a ball pit but when we got it out of the box it was too big for our living room and I'm not using it as a paddling pool for dd in the garden as we haven't got a parasol or anything to shade her from the sun yet. So I decided to sell it.

As it's unused, I put it on a selling site for a few pounds less than what it cost us. Had a lady snap it up, collected it today etc and one hour later she's put it up for sale on the same selling site for, not only more than I sold it, but more than the RRP.

Is it me or is that a bit cheeky?!

Not really cheeky just enterprising! If she had bargained you down and given you a sob story that would be different!

I would comment on her post and let the world know. Unlikely to have any effect, but might make you feel better.

It's how the economy works. You got what you wanted for it and she is trying to get more. It may or may not work for her, but entirely up to her if she wants to try.

Most people in this situation will have a selling account and a buying account so that the two transactions can't be easily linked. It happens all the time on selling sites, but you just don't notice.

It's not cheeky really.

That's not cheeky. You sold it and she bought it, it's up to her what she does with it.

This is why I'm reluctant to use those sites. I've got a load of immaculate baby girl clothes cluttering up the spare room but I'm loathed to sell them on there! I'd rather keep them!

Oh come on - "unscrupulous"? Hardly! It's a market economy. No different from buying stuff from jumble sales and then sticking the good stuff on Ebay. I would if I had the time.

If you go what you wanted for it, OP, then that's that.

That's just good business sense though

Low supply + high demand = Increased prices

Its the same with kittens, if you want them before or after the mass kitten boom you pay for them. If you get them when they're 10 a penny you get them free....

You should have looked at what other pools were selling for and priced accordingly if you cared that much

would u go to tesco and complain they were selling you a tin of beans for more than they had bought it for?

you put what you wanted for it, you got it so it shouldn't really bother you what she does with it.

If you comment on it, it's going to make look a bit weird and petty.

If people are prepared to pay what she is asking for it, then that's not really any of your business. It's hers now.

It would piss me off but I suppose you got what you asked for for it so you can't really complain. It doesn't seem 'right' to me though although I can't think why. She has bought it and it is hers to do what she likes with.

No but they are the only place we can get them and I appreciate they need to cover their overheads, pay staff and source stuff. Tesco is a bad example as they are exploitative and this is what I believe the OP's buyer is, too.

She saw people were desperate for stuff, and bought it on the sheer intent of making money out of that.

The OP didn't specify that she would only sell it to people that planning on keeping it for personal use.

Exactly how much more has she put it on sale for? Taking into account her time to collect it from you and transport costs if she didn't walk I can't imagine she's making much from it. Anyway you sold it so she's free to do what she likes with it.

It matters because she is taking advantage. It would be like me going to Tesco, buying a load of their value beans and setting up a stall outside, selling them to people for 20p more. It puts an artificial profit margin in the middle of an otherwise valid transaction. And it means that the people who are really wanting the item are now unable to have it without paying a lot more.
