AIBU not to go to sports day this afternoon?

Hopefully not, It's 84 degrees out there. We have a level three warning out in our part of the world for people at risk. I have a problem with my immune system and am in one of the at risk categories. I wouldn't choose to sit outside for any amount of time even with factor 50 suncream a hat and sunglasses. There is no shade at all in the area where the parents sit. They are putting up gazebos for the children, but nothing for anyone else.

But it is DS's last primary sports day and I'm feeling bad about not going....... AIBU staying home?

Could you take a large umbrella to create shade and sit under that?

I went to DS on Monday and it was very hot with no shade. It was hot but not too bad as I wasn't moving (unlike the poor kids!). Unless you're really going to suffer I would go as you'll regret it if you don't. Bung on your sunscreen and hat, take a rug and a cool drink and hopefully you'll be OK. It was lovely watching DS. He came last in his race though as slowed down to smile and wave at me. Grin

Don't do what I did though and forget to put sunscreen on your feet and wear sandals. I've got a nice triangular bit of sunburn on my foot now!

Sorry, should clarify, the heat is a problem as well as the sun for people with my condition.

I'm allergic to the sun and the heat makes me faint

But I'd take a sunshade and a water spray bottle. It really cools me down when I spray it...the slightest little breeze feels great.

It's your call. Only you know whether you can manage to go or not.

Could you go for part of the time? Just so your DC sees you there. Is there a break where parents and children mingle? Does the end of sports coincide with usual pick up?
