To ask what cultures you're from and you're attitudes re: body hair?

Hey everyone :)

I know this is a personal question, but I was wondering about beauty/body hair issues and if these attitudes are different within different cultures around the world and if so, how

I am from North Africa but I was raised in a lot of places and I think the only places a woman should have hair are on her head and her eyelashes and eyebrows, anything else seems a bit...unhygienic to me.

What about you all?

White, British

Covered in hair pretty much everywhere. I wished for a hairy chest as an adolescent as I thought it was manly (late 70's), can't remember wishing for a hairy back though - bugger. I find it quite embarrassing. Still, that's the hand I was dealt and DP seems to like it.

As for what anyone else has, I couldn't give a monkeys.

Body hair is only a hygiene problem if it's not washed regularly.

I am pretty sure the only reason I shaved my legs as a teen was because of peer pressure and it being the 'done' thing.

It is a bastard and yet another way to keep women trying to be something they are not.

Adult human women are not hairless, it is just the way it is. There is nothing inherently bad about hair.

I like a hairy back Ninja, DH is furry all over.

Luffly.

White, British

I shave the bits that are "expected" to be hairless in public - legs and under arms, try to keep roving eyebrows tidy. The rest I'm very lazy about and DH doesn't care.

I'm white British and fine with keeping it tidy, just as I would the hair on my head, but don't get the shame and "unhygienic" attitude to body hair. I shave my pits and legs in summer because my hair is dark and wiry and I don't want to see it poking out. If it was fine and fair, I'd care a lot less. I let it grow in winter though. If I shave my pits in cool weather, my armpits smell more than if I let the hair grow.

And I do tidy up my eyebrows, but only tidy them, rather than pluck or wax them to thin strips then draw them back on, again.

We oldies had all our pubic hairs shaved my the nurse before giving birth as was supposed to be more hygenic. Also remember how irritating it was when it grew back, especially at the bristle stage.< ouchy, ouchy, ouch!>

legs shaved to the knee, armpits shaved. That's because I (that is I) prefer it that way. Eyebrows tidied when I remember.

everything else as evolution intended - arm hair is fine and fades if you go outside sometimes. Upper leg hair is also not noticeable.

adult women have pubic hair. Also gives a better shape under a swimsuit, not that it matters.

I'm white, British, with naturally dark blonde hair.

I shave the hair on my legs and bikini line every 2 days when stubble starts to show; and shave my armpits daily.

I trim down below as well but I don't believe in complete hair removal there; my Mum and sister do and shave most of it off as well as bikini line.

I don't have arm hair.
I pluck my eyebrows.

I don't mind body hair on men though. Just not keen on facial hair on men!

White british and I fucking hate the cultural meme that says looking prepubescent is more attractive than looking like an actual adult woman.

Kids don't have hair on legs, armpits and genital areas. Adult women do. Remind me again which of these men are supposed to be sexually attracted to?

I think society is very sick indeed to pressure woman to look other than their natural adult state.

White British (with olive skin and dark hair) and I shave my arm pits when they are going to be visible. I shape my eyebrows and deal with the few escapees that seem to have appeared as I've got older.

I used to shave my legs but have realised that the hairs aren't as dark and visible as they once were, so I don't bother any more.

And I leave my bush to it's own devices.

The person who said her husband thinks that women who shave are not comfortable with their sexuality may like to consider whether her husband is indeed a mysoginist arse or just a smug idiot. Fuck off to him either way. Why it is that whether someone removes their pubes or not wheels out all the weirdos and creepy smuggos is beyond me. Who actually cares?

Another white British here. Like many others - I shave legs (to just above the knee) and armpits when they're going to be on display, otherwise about once a week. Hair is fine and light brown, and not very obvious. I trim my bush, have had it waxed a few times but hate the itching when it grows back, and have only shaved once (never again - itchy red spots everywhere Confused). I occasionally pluck my eyebrows to tidy them up but they're thin anyway, and pluck the odd stray facial hair when I spot them. Hairless male genitals repulse me - we are supposed to have hair! DH doesn't have a lot of chest hair (but I'm not adverse to it on other men), and I like him best with a bit of a beard!

I grew up in many different cultures, Asia, Americas, Europe.

My attitude is life is far too short to worry about what hair grows where, complete waste of time and energy, if I ever got bored enough to give it any thought, I would worry.

I think Wallace may be right about age. I freely admit to being old (46)
I went to boarding school and at 11/12 it was kudos to be the one who had started to grow pubes - you were more grown up.

To me, man with a hairy chest is a man, full grown
A man with a shaved chest is a teenage boy.
A man with shaved pubes is like a small boy Confused

For me, it really feels like to have sex with someone with no pubic hair would be like having sex with a 12 year old.

I am relieved to see how many women don't shave their pubes. It would never ever occur to me to think no pubes was more sexy. To me no pubes is prepubescent.

That is just how I feel, no offense to anyone who feels totally differently, as wallace said it may be an age thing.

On a practical note, I used to shave my bikini line, I tried razor, wax and cream and it always went sore and red, by the time it was fit to be seen, regrowth had started, and that was stubbly and prickly and uncomfortable. It also regrew with ingrowing hairs etc etc. It was a total nightmare. I can't imagine choosing to do that on my sensitive bits!

The judgy-pants and sneering on threads like this, never ceases to amaze me.

It is personal hair worra but when our DD's (or DS's) are pressurised by societys expectations to do something something, that like you say "doesn't really matter", it is hard not to judge.

British, remove all public, armpit and leg hair because it feels nicer to me. Pluck my eyebrows, have never waxed my lip or removed hair from my arms though.

Black British of Caribbean descent. I've always done my armpits, do my legs if they are going to be exposed/summer. I waxed and shaved my pubes like a bald eagle for one guy ( well he was very good at oral, what's a lady to do?), but now I just trim around the "V" as I can't stop laughing at the sight of my fanjo with no hair on it ( it just looks very strange). None of this is for hygiene's sake, just appearance. My armpits do not smell worse or better , with or without hair. Bathing/showering is what gets me clean and smelling good.
