To think shops are not helping themselves?

Went shopping today for holiday clothes for me. These were bin high street shops and department stores.

Spotted some nice shorts, longish rather than bum cheek skimming. Four racks of size 6 and one size 8. Although bum cheek ones available up to size 20.

Then spotted a nice dress, there were six of themin size 20 and 22.

Would it not be sensible to stock a range of sizes? So now my money will go to Asos or similar online 'shop'.

I went shopping yesterday and found all sorts of lovely stuff in size 8. which I am not.
Though to be fair, most things look nicer in size 8.

Apart from shoes (in which I am an 8) and they have lovely size 5s and the 8s are all solid black with velcro straps and not suitable for normal humans.

Summer clothes have been on sale for about 3 months or so, Autumn will come in next after the sales. It happens every year this way, it's not a surprise Smile

I know what you mean OP - the 10s seem to sell out before the other sizes.

I don't want to shop three months before I need stuff. Especially since I have dropped two sizes in three months.

Summer season clothes have been on sale for months now, I work in retail and the majority of our summer clothes are now in the sale and we are beginning to get our autumn range in.

Also, there is a ridiculous heat wave going on so I expect many stores are selling out of summer clothes extremely quickly.

They don't get a long range forecast, and they would rather sell out than have lots of unsold/unsellable stock. They already stock more 10-14 than other sizes.

Lead times for most shops are quite long - they are ordering next spring/summer's collections at the moment.

Shops don't want to be left with loads of clothes they can't sell.

I desperately need some teenage boys shorts, due to growth spurt. Do you think I can find any? Oh, no.

It is always the same sizes that go first, even with shoes, my size is always gone first.

This has been happening for years-they don't plan.

You don't expect shops to keep stock back until the warm weather actually arrives do you? They'd be left with shitlaods of stock.

I had someone moan at me today about why we had sold out in size six sandals. I was polite, but did explain that we do have lots of other customers who do buy sandals in a size six. I offered to order for her, but "I wanted them today"

Our local asda is full of 'back to school' stuff. Kids winter coats, school uniform the lot!
No summer ladies wear in sight. All autumn stuff. I was looking for a cotton sundress, silly me.

How could the shops have foreseen summer weather? Last year it rained solidly fr 6 weeks! And we all wanted macs.

I went in to four shops today for soft jersey type toddler size shorts..... Nothing! Even supermarkets are empty, and next seem to have a late summer range, that's new so not in sale but no shorts there either. Boden again for me.

its the 'back to school' stuff that gets me on sale in july.

by the end of summer the kids have grown so youd need bigger sizes anyway, so why display the school stuff now and not, say, mid august??

and i saw winter coats 'new' being hung in local M & S today!!

Many shops don't have the room to hold excess stock, like the extra size 6 sandals etc. but they usually are avaliable to order.

Amber- there is no way to predict which styles will be the most popular as people's tastes can differ enormously from the buyer of 12 months previous. We did have at least three other designs in the size needed.

Clara-talking shoes only, my size always sells out long before any other size.

They are not getting enough of my size. This has been the same from right back when I was a high spending teen/20 something, to now when Im nearly 40 and reasonably skint.

I also used to work in retail and it was the same then we'd even tell the buyers to get more of size [whatever] an they did not listen.
