not to buy summer clothes 'till summer arrives?

Went shopping yesterday, admittedly in Crapsville (it's where I live), to get some summery tops and dresses for dcs and me, only to find the shops half empty. Few crappy bits of sale stuff and the start of the autumn but not a lot else. Next had even taken lots of its display racks out.

Considering most people go on hols in August, is everyone else freakishly organised? Do you all buy clothes months ahead? I never know what size my dds will be!

I've ended up trawling the boden sale and spending £££ when all I wanted was a few cheap things!

TKMaxx is your saviour! got loads of things there at the weekend for DD who has inexplicably grown, and no longer fitted any of her clothes that fitted only 3 weeks earlier Confused

I don't get all these kids that suddenly don't fit clothes. My dd and ds are both very tall but usually get two years out of most clothes, the only exception being trousers, shorts just get shorter, dresses can be teamed with leggings, no one cares if tees are a bit short in the body.

I buy clothes in the sales for the following year but buy the next size up to be sure I get two years wear.

I don't have teens though. I am guessing they don't grow gradually and do have huge spurts.

Honestly- I measured her- she has grown 2 inches in fewer than 5 weeks! Shock
Her hips have grown too, meaning trousers/shorts that fitted then now do not.

To be fair though, her clothes were not last summer's clothes, as we didn't actually have a summer, they were the summer before's purchases, however, she was wearing them only 3 weekends ago, and couldn't get into them this Sunday morning! (cue huge tears, and weeping fits Hmm)

It's not just sudden growth spurts, there is also the case of the disappearing shorts that you know you had somewhere, but seem to have vanished.

Every shop I have been in recently still has summer stuff in.

I think if you wait until mid heat wave to buy anything though then of course you will have limited choice!

DS (3.5) is still wearing last summers clothes which makes it easier, but surely it's not that hard to have an idea what size childen are going to be in over summer? If in doubt buy a bit bigger and you might get 2 (or 3 in the case of DS) years out of things!

I am making a fair bit selling mens, womens and boys shorts on eBay at the moment! Have 1 pair of SoulCal knee length dark olive walking shorts left in a size 8 if anyone wants them PM me!

Very hard to sell anything else at the moment though Sad

Where do people keep all this stuff they buy on advance? I have one wardrobe which holds the stuff I'm wearing now. I have one of those clothes bag things on the top of my wardrobe with winter coats in.

But if I have to stockpile autumn stuff, where the fright will it go?

Someone explained this on here once. It's to do with warehouse fees and stock ordering times and I don't know what. But there is a good reason that shops stock stuff for the coming season, not the season we are in. You need to be more organised! Or shop in primark.
