To be absolutely fuming? (Dodgy estate agent)

I am trying to sell my flat, I have instructed an agent on sole agency terms and signed a contract. The agent has keys for viewings as the flat is not used very often at the moment.

The concierge of the building also has a set of keys, all the apartment front doors and common areas are being painted so they need keys for the decorators.

There is a man that lives in the building who runs his own estate agency business. He called me the other day trying to encourage me to use him instead of the agent I have already appointed. I said no, sorry, have already signed up with someone else.

I found out today that he has somehow managed to get the keys from concierge and taken someone for a viewing of my flat.

I have been spitting feathers over this and already gone ballistic at concierge over the phone. What else can I do?

Maggie, I thought you were referring to my post and thought Hmm . No I don't think the OP was stealth boasting. People rich or dirt-poor post on MN and are only after advice. If you have nothing constructive to add, why bother posting?

GetStuffezd · 16/07/2013 19:52

Where's the stealth boast?! Confused

MissStrawberry · 16/07/2013 19:56

Perhaps she thinks the OP is "stealth boasting" about the fact that she vaguely knows foreign royal Hmm.

Erato · 16/07/2013 19:57

Stealth boasting?? Ha ha ha. Yes, because everyone on MN should pretend they have an identical level of income / asset holdings / aspiration etc in order not to offend people who have class ishoos.

CuthbertDibble · 16/07/2013 19:58

Stealth boast? I'm sorry, I have a flat I'm trying to sell, I've encountered a problem, I was really annoyed by what had happened and was asking for opinions/advice.

Am I not allowed to post just because I own a flat?

Don't know him, never knowingly met him, but he did keep emphasising it on the phone 'my name is Prince X, I have a title, I may as well use it'. He sounded like a bit of an arse, I did not like him.

Is he the son of Michael Jackson? Or The Purple One?

Fairenuff · 16/07/2013 20:47

It would do him good to get a dressing down from the police. It might be prudent to change your lock and only give the new set of keys to the estate agent that you want to deal with.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 16/07/2013 20:48

This is a police matter, IMO

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 16/07/2013 20:49

.. and yes, change your locks

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 16/07/2013 20:49

and what bollocks about stealth boasting.

WilsonFrickett · 16/07/2013 20:54

Oh it's really difficult because I can see from your posts you don't want to get the concierge in to trouble. But he really shouldn't have given your keys to anyone. Can you have the concierge change the locks, that way he can sort of put things right? And then of course don't give him a key!

Fairenuff · 16/07/2013 21:05

I wouldn't trust the concierge tbh. For all you know he could be in with the 'Prince' and who knows what they are cooking up. Seriously, report it.

DorisIsWaiting · 16/07/2013 21:23

When he phone again ask him to email confirming the details (if he doesn't write fully just do a rough precis and ask him if this is correct).

Then go to the police.
