Obviously not at the same time, tried asking elsewhere and didn't get much response so thought I'd ask here..
I know of the obvious dangers of using a subbed bit just wanted to know of its ok to use while breastfeeding.

A sun bed in this weather?
really?

PatsyAndEddy · 16/07/2013 10:29

Would warm the milk Grin

ditsydoll · 16/07/2013 10:30

Haha I know, I can't stand sitting in it, I'd rather jump on a sun ed for 6 minutes than sit in the sun all day.

Ok. To break it down, I don't think there is any reason why using a sunbed while breastfeeding should cause you or your baby any more problems than if you were not breastfeeding.

However if you have a baby then you might want to think a bit more carefully about minimising your risks of cancer in its various forms.

Having lost my best friend to melanoma at 34, with two children under 5, that's all I have to say on the matter. (sorry)

FeckOffCup · 16/07/2013 10:45

Be careful how long you go on for, someone I know who uses them regularly got burned on one last week because the tubes had just been changed. Breastfeeding might be just a bit sore with sunburned nipples.

Emilythornesbff · 16/07/2013 11:55

Not contraindicated In breastfeeding but it is a significant health risk for you.
Also, do not I
Underestimate the "cosmetic" damage that a sunned can very likely do.
Sorry to be a bore.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 16/07/2013 11:59

Wouldn't have thought it would affect breastmilk/breastfeeding.

BUT (am not being preachy), they are dangerous and will give you skin that looks like a tired leather handbag in a few years.

The only 'safe' tan is a fake tan.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 16/07/2013 11:59

Well I'm sure there is no specific reason not to in relation to breastfeeding, but I really wouldn't use a sunbed ever.

You will look like a handbag by the time you're 40 for a start, and I wouldn't want to increase my cancer risk because I want to be around for my kids.

ZipItShrimpy · 16/07/2013 12:00

Sorry to be a big bore but why on earth would you want to use a sun bed ever?

Such a bad idea.

angelsonhigh · 16/07/2013 12:03

Agree ZipIt. If you have to have a tan , have a fake one.

In OZ they are considering a "buy back" of all sunbeds thereby wiping out the industry altogether. I think I remember hearing that they are going to start next year.

ZipItShrimpy · 16/07/2013 12:08

Angels Hopefully they will just disappear eventually.

I personally can't be arsed with fake tan so just look pale and interesting. If its good enough for Dita Von Tees

ZipItShrimpy · 16/07/2013 12:09

Oops... Dita Von Teese, it's good enough for me! Grin

Sallystyle · 16/07/2013 12:09

If you want higher chances of skin cancer go for it.

FreedomOfTheTess · 16/07/2013 12:15

You know the dangers, but you still want to use one. Really?

My aunt used sunbeds, she was one of those 'it will never happen to me' people, and as you can tell from my using past tense, she's no longer with us. Skin cancer took her from us two years ago.

AnythingNotEverything · 16/07/2013 12:21

I didn't know people still used sunbeds.

Sparklingbrook · 16/07/2013 12:24

I was going to say spray tan but probably not. Sad

I wouldn't use a sunbed whether breastfeeding or not due to health risks but no idea if you can't.

Fakebook · 16/07/2013 12:25

You have the sunlight. Why oh why are you wanting to use a sunbed in this weather? Absolutely bizarre.

squoosh · 16/07/2013 12:28

Sunbed tans never look natural. People always go a weird apricot shade of Tommy Sheridan.

Feminine · 16/07/2013 12:28

No? really?

I think you should get a bubble perm to complete your retro style preference!

I have really read it all now

squoosh · 16/07/2013 12:30

Come to Glasgow, sunbeds are still BIG business here. Like you would not believe.

KobayashiMaru · 16/07/2013 12:31

no you can't. Or any other time if you have the slightest bit of sense.

PatsyAndEddy · 16/07/2013 12:32

They are often a front for something, lots of money going through them even if there aren't that many people using them.

Sallyingforth · 16/07/2013 12:34

OP I have a tip for you that is guaranteed to keep your skin looking younger, and may save your life.
Send me the money that you would have spent on the sunbed, and I will tell you the secret.

CakesAreNotTheAnswer · 16/07/2013 12:35

bear in mind you might be a bit more sensitive to the various rays when pregnant and breastfeeding so if you absolutely must use a sunbed do it for very very short amounts of time - maybe a quarter of what you did before - until you've made sure your skin isn;t going to react. Also be aware you may get some uneven pigmentation due to hormones, so you may go a lovely blotchy orange tan rather than a nice even orange tan
