You would get proper travel insurance and declare your circumstances?

Xdh is going on holiday but wants to get "normal, cheap insurance" and not notify them of his medical problems. I have told him how ridiculous this is as if he is ill/hurt then his insurance might not be valid.

I want him to get the correct policy as don't want something to happen which means we end up with more money problems (long story but huge amount of history debts etc and married so it would affect me I think).

I don't know if its pride stopping him but I pointed out if he gets injured and has to go to hospital they would take one look at him, see he has multiple scars from previous surgeries and other obvious problems and they would know there are pre existing problems.

AIBU to think he is being really stupid about this and should just pay a little extra for the right insurance rather than risk ending up with a huge medical bill?

Do you have time to send a legal separation petition to the court? That will ensure that you're not liable.

(Working link!)

There is no 'might be valid' about it..if the insurance company find out he has not disclosed lied pre-existing conditions they will void his policy.

He might as well not bother if he is going to lie

Many moons ago, I worked as a claims handler for a medical insurance company. If he needs to make a claim, there is every chance that they'll ask for his medical records from his GP before paying any claim if they have any suspicions. These companies do not like paying out money!

I had insurance made invalid once. My EHIC only covered 20% of the end bill after I fell and broke my wrist. It still cost me £3k out of my own pocket and this was only in France.

Don't take the risk.

This is idiotic. He will be found out if he claims.

I would shop around - a friend with an unusual medical condition got cover from First Direct that included said condition at no extra cost.
