Maybe I'm just ignorant, and she may go (in secret?) or used to go until recently with her husband, but if not, surely spending ALL summers in Scotland whatever the weather is samey and not very healthy (no sea and sun benefits)? Older people especially need their sun, not least for the vit D to avoid osteoporosis (women especially).
And I don't mean official visits, just private time, few weeks of doing nothing.

isn't it obvious that the bedroom tax has left her unable to afford another holiday? She's going to have to sell off some of her buy to lets or holiday homes.

ha, didn't expect people getting offended!
I never said that Scotland isn't attarctive, and especially if you have acres of gardens and woodland to play in. BUT it's extremely unusual for an older person who can afford it, not to want to rela somewhere where the sunshine is guaranteed (and the sea is very healthy - to swim in, not just to look at!). I bet her friends all go somewhere at least for a cuple of weeks, let alone all the middle classes - and no, not all over the place or Australia, but South of France (Will and Kate did - but also huge chunk of posh emigrants live there), maybe Italy, somewhere secluded.
Not surprised though that it's Philip, Mrsrobert though Grin. Yes she travels, but it's not holidays.
If she genuinely doesn't want to - fine, I was just wondering if she's not restricted by security issues/being papped/her H/being criticised for spending money on what would be a vrey expensive holiday not doing any duties. This was NOT the thread to criticise Scotland. And I'm sure it's sunny now, but the whole of last summer in the UK was a wipeout. It's medical fact that older women need more vit D from the sun, not my fanciful opinion.

Compos, agree that the Royals generally are hardly overburned, but the Queen really does work very hard for her age - most people would find it too har to stand and talk to people for hours pretending to be interested even in something boring. I have huge respect for her, even though I think that once she goes, the whole thing should wrap up and the royals should just do charity work and live off their wealth while employing people, but not be 'the head of state', as the young/er ones just don't have any gravitas - but that's not my decision.

that WAS funny, apostroph!
