to find these cards from Paperchase a bit...

Hmm

Was in there this morning buying a card for DP, and stumbled on one that said in big multicolour writing on the front, "This card is almost as gay as you are."

A quick website search also throws up this: www.paperchase.co.uk/invt/00494015/

I feel a bit weird about seeing this sort of humour bandied about. Since when was being gay an insult again? Have I got the wrong end of the stick? AIBU? Should I go back to the shop and complain? Confused

I don't think it is meant to be insulting. Rather a kind of "in joke" kind of thing?

I'm sure people might find it insulting, but I have gay friends who would find it hilarious and certainly have gay friends who would buy it for each other iyswim?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/07/2013 20:31

My gay friends would love them, and tbh say far worse to each other than appears on the cards. :)

MeSoFunny · 14/07/2013 20:31

Brilliant!

gordyslovesheep · 14/07/2013 20:35

they are not insulting - my gay mates would find them funny - if you think they are bad try Dean Morris cards!

Mckayz · 14/07/2013 20:36

My gay best friend would love that card!!!!

YouStayClassySanDiego · 14/07/2013 20:36

I love the cards with that sense if humour.

I would never send one to someone who didn't appreciate the in joke between friends.

I but my cards from paperchase all of the time now, they're brilliant.

CloudsAndTrees · 14/07/2013 20:38

Why do you think the cards are meant as an insult? I don't think it is.

But if you really do feel the need to ok pain for some reason, don't go back into the shop to moan at the shop workers that have no control over what the shop sells. It's pointless. Write to head office if you have a point to make.

dexter73 · 14/07/2013 20:39

They are cards for people with a sense of humour. I would send one to my sister and she would think it was funny.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 14/07/2013 20:42

Go back to the shop and complain.

Then wait for the titters of giggling when your back is turned, save your angst for real discrimination and act then.

lemonandice · 14/07/2013 20:45

Fair enough then. Looks like I did indeed misread the humour in them then. Being bisexual, maybe I'm just secretly jealous there's not one that says "this card is as confused as you."

Maybe you should market that and make a small fortune!

themaltesecat · 14/07/2013 20:48

Really want to send that to my brother now!

Ham69 · 14/07/2013 20:51

I can understand how you feel and don't thing YABU. I'd hate my DC to read the cards and think 'you're gay' is an acceptable insult in the playground.
I do find them fairly amusing, but would not feel comfortable sending one to a gay friend. If someone who is gay wants to make a joke about it, fair enough, but don't think it's up to heterosexuals to do so.
Maybe I'm a bit over sensitive too.

ShabbyButNotChic · 14/07/2013 21:53

Yabu, i would send that card to my friends. My mate was chuffed with her birthday card that said 'happy birthday you old lezzer' :) stuck it on her fridge and everything
