Toddler crying for Daddy for 2 hours last night

Woken at 3.30 am by small child in house somewhere nearby temper screaming (IYKWIM) Daddeee.... Daddeee...

Went on for two effing hours non stop. No chance of sleeping through that so have been up since then.

If it sounded like the child was in pain I'd have called the police, but child sounded angry that no Daddy coming when called.

Why the hell didn't parents respond - how could they not have heard their child when I (and the rest of the neighbourhood) so clearly could.

Just venting really GRRRRR

To be fair my dd will shout for daddy even when he's there.
She does her best daddy screaming when he's out though Hmm

OnceUponAThyme · 14/07/2013 09:52

my neice did this after her father died. my sister would go in and try to.comfort her but it just wouldn't stop for hours.
maybe the child's father was out or had left the family home, and there was no stopping the shouting.

gallifrey · 14/07/2013 09:52

oh dear my dd was up at 3.30 shouting for mummy and daddy last night!
Hope it wasn't her...
do you happen to live near the coast op?Angry

mynameisslimshady · 14/07/2013 09:54

The dad could have been away, ill, in hospital or any number of other scenarios, the mum may well have been trying to comfort the child. Annoying as it is to be woken up, I think you need to think about all the possibilities before assuming the parents didn't care.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 14/07/2013 09:54

Maybe daddy was out and frustrated mummy was trying to calm him down? That's what was going on at bedtime in my house last night.

BMW6 · 14/07/2013 10:05

gallifrey Yeeeess, I DO live near the coast..... well, a major shipping port in the South......

I could hear the child very clearly (even with window shut) and listened for voice of a person comforting child, but nothing .......

I know it MAY have been unavoidable, but I'm so tired and the sound was so stress-inducing I could have cried myself Angry

Yabu, if the parent had been screaming at the child presumably you would be complaining about that too.

Chances are the parent was quietly trying to calm the child down.

gallifrey · 14/07/2013 11:44

lol I live near a town that's known for having loads of old people!
Phew maybe not my dd then although we certainly wouldn't have left her for 2 hours!

Moxiegirl · 14/07/2013 11:46

My two little dd's do this sometimes, we could be trying to comfort and they will still wail Hmm

StuntGirl · 14/07/2013 14:39

Well the other parent wouldn't have been yelling at equal volume would they? So you wouldn't be likely to hear them.

I'm sorry you've had very little sleep. Try a cat nap and I hope you feel better.

RoxyFox211 · 15/07/2013 09:01

Sounds like where I live... Hope I haven't been sleeping through dd's shouting !

xylem8 · 15/07/2013 09:27

they don't respond because they don't want to encourage it!! earplugs!

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 15/07/2013 09:29

Gallifrey - God's waiting room....my mum and dad used to live there :)

Maybe they don't want to end up like me....with a DS at the age of 10 almost 11 who still wakes up and shouts for mum. Maybe I should have ignored him when he was little. Hmm

gallifrey · 15/07/2013 11:25

Yes it's not the most exciting place in the world! We have been here for 7 years but will be moving away next week :)

kinkyfuckery · 15/07/2013 11:30

Was it really two whole hours? I'd have thought kid would have cried itself to sleep before then.

Both of my children have suffered from night terrors at points, where they scream and cry and freak the fuck out. No amount of comforting brings them out of it, so the best thing to do is to just make sure they are safe and let them get on with it.

PatsyAndEddy · 15/07/2013 11:43

Are you sure it was for 2 hours? It's easy to lose your perception of time passing in the dead of night!
