To give up on the Mooncup?

So I had never heard of the 'Mooncup' until browsing on here so I thought I'd give it a go. Great idea in theory - makes perfect sense! Getting the thing is great - removing is just a nightmare. At least 5 minutes of delving and then plunging in with both hands to release the vacuum and remove. Quite messy and a little stressful. Have popped it away in a cupboard - does this get easier - is there a knack to the fanjo delving? Also what do you do when out in public loos/work - how does the cleaning work?

Pinch the bottom to break the seal and twist very gently. Giving it a few seconds to loosen before pulling. If it doesn't I'll pinch again. Never had to go for a cave dive!
All done with 2 fingers nice and cleanly at the bottom.

That's what works for me anyway.

I get on much better with a fleur cup than a mooncup - so if you want to stick with it there are other options.

But how does it come out. Can you just pull the whole thing out intact? Can only bring it our the way it goes in with the side caved in to break the round rim.

Begonia-if you just pulled it out without breaking the seal you'd give your self a tonsillectomy via your nether regionsShock Grin

I had a c section, so am honey moon freshWink don't get blood anywhere on fingers at all, not sure I'd bother using it if I did tbh.

I have used one for years and wouldn't change now. I grip the bottom and wiggle it back and forth to break the vacuum. I used to have a worse vacuum problem Hmm because my untreated endometriosis was causing cramps.
The key thing is you can't just pull it out you do need to do something to break the seal.

I didn't get on with it at all, mine is gathering dust in the bathroom as I type. I found I had awful cramps, I leaked constantly and it was far more hassle than it was worth. Other people seem to get on great with them, but it wasn't for me.

What's a fleurcup?

Begonia- sorry I think I misunderstood. Do you mean you are unable to physically remove it without folding the rim so it's smaller? Not a suction thing, rather a size issue? It should easily come out without any discomfort (yy transvaginal tonsillectomy Grin )

Are you using the right size? There are other brands too with a slightly longer, finer shape which may help?

I was thinking of trying one but I'm not sure now. I have the ability to be extraordinarily clumsy, in fact, if I were a superhero, that would be my special power. Superklutz. Me plus inner suction is a casualty episode waiting to happen.

That's why I asked if you all had big foo foos that you could so easily pop them out. Seriously, can you just pull it out, straight down with no problem, no discomfort?

Report
valiumredhead · 12/07/2013 21:17

No, no one can without breaking the seal first.

i would say i have stretched, due to bad tearing, and i am talking really changed down there, yet i couldn't just pull my mooncup out. I have to break the suction, and wiggle it out tilting it to the side slightly to get the last bit out iyswim.

It would be an ouch if i didn't tilt it over right at the end.

Ok I think I'm with you now sorry.
I follow the direction of travel as it were. When sitting this means a slight tilt which helps the lip of the cup miss any of me on the way out.

Maybe look at a lilycup as no rim.
Or try the pinch and tilt.

There are a few of blogs full of comparisons and info
I used this one although I think most here use an actual Mooncup brand I think we sometimes use it as shorthand for menstrual cup.

I pinch and twist mine from the outside of the cup lower than the rim - and it's never so full that it spills - i then ease it out with a slight kink it in on the way out to break the seal but not completely folded up like when it goes in.
I almost never get any blood on myself.

I don't think I've got a very large fanjo as I am also virginal after a C-section. When I pinch the bottom of mine, to get it out, I have to grip it very firmly with my nails. Doing it just with the finger pads is very slippy. Then I pull it out slowly, one side after another. This is not a very comfortable process as it feels a bit like pulling out a melon, but it's not painful. I never spill blood at all, not even on my fingers. Confused My problem is flushing the blood down the toilet as it all ends up sitting in one little scarlet pool at the bottom of the bowl.

Oh well, maybe I should change my name to Begoniaofthesmallfanjo!

Grin if you've got it why not flaunt it?!

Mooncups are quite stiff though and brands like Rubycup and Sckoon (?sp) aren't and have different shapes so worth having a look around. They are suitable for girls from the start of their periods so smallness of fanjo, however enviable Envy Grin, shouldn't cause you a problem. If you can manage a penis or similar (there is just no delicate way to enquire about someone else's fanjo filling activities, I'm sorry, ykwim hopefully!) I suspect a softer cup will help rather than a smaller one.

I fully expect you to completely avoid me now btw but I promise it's the mooncup and not your bits I'm interested in.

Autumn - I know some people just use the sink but I tend to put folded toilet roll down the loo before I remove my cup (and post wee obvs) I find it absorbs enough/is enough of a barrier to stop that pooling at the bottom of the bowl - we have a weak flush as well which doesn't help.
Not very green I guess with the extra paper but I think it's better than wasting extra flushes of water and I'm not using/disposing of other sanpro. I keep fingers crossed it evens itself out.

Or you could go the way of our awesome but super hippy friends - chuck it in a bucket and then throw it on your compost heap and flowers Shock.

Keep trying! It gets better. The first use for me was fine but strange, second I thought it was stuck and almost asked DH to get up there with a torch!!! Little pushes, if you get stressed out walk away and try again a bit later. I also have to tip mine a bit funny whilst removing but I don't spill.

I often do the loo roll down the loo first too but iv usually gone for a wee first anyway so it isn't wasted!! (The thing we share on MN)
