to despise the word 'affordable'?

I hate it. It's just so patronising especially when used by official bodies

In our area we are supposed to get 'hundreds of affordable homes' being built within the next few years. Affordable for who? Someone struggling hand to mouth on benefits?

Countless other examples too, the word is overused in the recession to try and draw us in but it's so meaningless, it makes me cringe every time I hear it.

The affordable 'family' 2 bed flats near me are £289,000 Hmm

The second bedroom is 8ft by 7ft.

"Affordable" = cheap build quality shoehorned into least favourable position on development but still at eyewatering "market value". And snapped up by greedy bastard buy to let landlords to rent back to all those people priced out of the market by said landlords purchase power.
It's about time there was a legal definition for "affordable" in a property context. Something to with being within financial reach of the average wage of those that live or work in that specific area.
The last lot of "affordable" houses in my home village were around the £250k mark. The average wage for locals would give a buying potential of around £80-100k.
