They've airbrushed her mole away...

DD is 18mo, her nursery have photo companies come in every 6 months or so and take photos of the kids which the parents can then buy. They're very old school - in the crappy paper frame thing, all in the same traditional pose.

So I picked up DD's yesterday, its actually a nice photo, she's smiling which is practically impossible to catch on camera and her eyes are all twinkly - so yes, we'll buy the photo pack at £35 thank you very much.

Until I took a closer look and realised they've airbrushed out the mole on her forehead. Its not a huge unsightly thing, but its pretty obvious and every picture I have of her picks it up, so this can't have been a camera issue. They have looked at her face and decided to "fix" her and I find that distasteful and a little disturbing that even at 18mo her "flaws" are being wiped out.

I'm tempted to write to them and complain.... but I can't decide if I'm just being totally pfb about it. It's probably not worth my time, but it's bothering me... I intend on keeping the picture anyway, but I'd quite like to see the original pre-airbrushed version.

Thoughts!?

I would complain. And ask for the photos to be reprinted without the airbrushing.

brilliantwhite · 11/07/2013 07:45

i would not buy the picture and i would complain.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 11/07/2013 07:47

U would complain. You wanted a picture of your dd not a flawless airbrushed modelling photo. As if you would want parts of your dds face erased :(

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 11/07/2013 07:48

I would complain rather

MalcolmTuckersMum · 11/07/2013 07:48

No way would I buy this picture and not just because of the outrageous price. If you do buy it you're letting them know it's ok to do this. It isn't. Well IMO anyway.

ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 11/07/2013 07:48

I think you should ask for the original photo. With mole. And ask them why they took it upon themselves to remove it.

How are you going to explain the disappearing mole when she looks at that photo when she's older?

It's not up to them to decide to do something like this. What the hell were they thinking?

I don't understand air brushing or silly photo angles anyway. So you don't have a wrinkle or a double chin in a photo - anyone who looks at you sees you!! What the hell is the point of pretending that the photo is actually how you look?

ScarletLady02 · 11/07/2013 07:50

I have quite a big mole on my face....I was really conscious of it when I was little until I saw Cindy Crawford (she was my hero as a young child) and after that I embraced it and it's part of who I am. I'd be gutted if someone did this to me or my DD, so yes, I'd complain about it. It's one thing for you to ask for it to be removed, but another for them to just assume. It's a picture of a toddler...they don't need "modifying"!

DoItTooJulia · 11/07/2013 07:53

I would ring them up and tell them you are confused, that there must have been a mistake, as your daughters mole is missing. Calmly and politely ask for the photo as it ought to be.

Then remind them that they are school photographers, not fashion editors and to put your airbrush away. I would also tell the school what's happened, so that they can decide if these are the best photographers for the job....

I think this is outrageous and I would be furious.

AnythingNotEverything · 11/07/2013 07:54

Words fail me. Definitely complain.

shewhowines · 11/07/2013 07:55

That's not on. I would ask for the original photos.

AuntieStella · 11/07/2013 07:59

Agree, not right at all. And ask what on earth was going on.

Or sens them back, saying "You appear to have sent the photos of the wrong child. Please would you send the correct ones". When they try to insist there is no mistake, that's when you say "No, my DD had a facial mole and this child doesn't"

RaisingChaotic · 11/07/2013 08:01

I'm Shock Definitely complain. Your dd's mole is part of her, how dare they decide that that part of her isn't good enough.

MousyMouse · 11/07/2013 08:06

I have quite an obvious mole in my face.
once for a glamour photo shoot (the kind were they put make up on and dress you in glittery things), the make up artistactually buried my mole under make up, you couldn't see it at all. I made them dig it out again (quite literally, from under all the make up). it wouldn't be me without the mole.

op, I would complain. only buy the photos when you like the un-airbrushed version.

Devora · 11/07/2013 08:07

I would complain too. What next, lightening skin tones and shading down ginger?

FeegleFion · 11/07/2013 08:11

What a crock! Shock

I do believe the best route would be to address it ASAP and to insist on the originals complimentary now that you're at it

And I would also definitely take it up with the school and make it clear you are not impressed.

MarilynMoanroe · 11/07/2013 08:11

That's not on at all. My youngest son's ears stick out - would they air brush his ears away entirely? Stupid company.

WandaDoff · 11/07/2013 08:15

Why on earth would they think it was ok to airbrush a picture of a baby? Confused

I'd complain & insist on the original photo.

kitbit · 11/07/2013 08:23

I don't think it's policy to airbrush, wonder if they thought the dark spot was a flaw in the photo and didn't realise it was meant to be there?

TobyLerone · 11/07/2013 08:27

How dare they? YY complain.

scarletforya · 11/07/2013 08:30
Shock

I've heard it all now. I would be furious.

coughingbean · 11/07/2013 08:30

I has some professional photos done of my DD and her nephews for Christmas presents.
The photographer said she needed a couple of weeks to edit them and there was quite a lot of red in DDs hair would I like her to tone it down?
Um no, I wanted a picture of who she is not what people think she should look like!
Saying that at least she asked.
IMO its awful they did it without your permission.

Free the mole!

Decanter · 11/07/2013 08:31

Devora what does that mean?

Jengnr · 11/07/2013 08:32

I'd be furious. Absolutely hopping mad.
