to NOT want the cashier in bloody Waitrose to refer to women as 'birds'?

Picking up some shopping today, whilst wearing an (admittedly slightly daft but very effective) cowgirl hat, the cashier said to me "Nice hat" to which I replied "Thanks" and carried on packing my shopping.

Then he said "Nice hair too, mind you must get boiling in this weather". I went mmmmmmhhmmmm carried on packing my shopping in the normal manner of a harassed mother of a toddler at 3.10pm.

And THEN he said "I've only ever been with one bird with dreadlocks you know", like I fucking care or something, and WINKED at me [ugh] Angry

Yab(a bit) u. Its a bit sexist and annoying but not the worst thing I've ever heard. Brush it off, not really worth stressing over.

Oh good one MrsP. I agree not appropriate at all, not even in Lidl Wink
I went to the sixth form of a Catholic boys' school which admitted girls just for sixth form, and the girls' block was called The Aviary "because it's where the birds are" Hmm

Another one who doesn't get what is wrong with 'birds' for women. How is it different to bloke or fella? I use it sometimes?

Live near the Essex/London area border and it's quite common. A bit out of date, but not out of place ifyswim? I wouldn't be offended at that...some of the other stuff though, I would be.

RaisingChaotic · 10/07/2013 21:41

Oh, but I dislike men who call their girlfriends their 'bird' it's common around where I live and it gets right on my tits.
