To wonder why people don't do snuff more?

It attracts no duty so very cheap, no defined risk of cancer and no nasties like the 347 chemicals in cigarettes Confused

< muses, since watching Oliver Twist and looking up snuff on wiki>

I always assumed it had the same shit in as cigs but apparently not.

Is it not as 'good' as fags then?

I knew a few guys who dipped.

GetStuffezd · 09/07/2013 17:06

One of the regulars in my old pub offered me some once and I recall it being vile!
I thought it did have cancer links though?

phantomnamechanger · 09/07/2013 17:07

they snort other stuff instead?

mrsjay · 09/07/2013 17:07

my dad used to years ago and chewing tobacco he was a miner and the chewing tobaccon cleared the dust and soot out the lungs Confused

scarletforya · 09/07/2013 17:07

Doesn't it cause mouth cancers....?

kittenmittens · 09/07/2013 17:09

I know somebody who used snuff. I tried it a couple of times. I used to be a smoker and although snuff gave you a bit of a nicotine high I wasn't going to swap it for smoking. It was the actual act of smoking and inhaling that was a big part of the habit, not just the nicotine.

SwedishEdith · 09/07/2013 17:09

Is it like that tobacco that Swedes all stuff between their top lip and their gums? I tried that once but I'm pretty sure that's got cancer links. Pronounced like Snoose, I think?

Lulabellarama · 09/07/2013 17:10

Its' still fairly popular in some Scandinavian countries

LaurieFairyCake · 09/07/2013 17:11

Chewing tobacco has oral cancer risks. Snuff has none apparently.

Because some people have no interest in inhaling things to get a high?

HappySeven · 09/07/2013 18:32

I can't believe it has no cancer risks - isn't it the same stuff and coming into contact with the delicate lining of your nose? It may not be proven but I'd put money on it being bad for your health.

Remotecontrolduck · 09/07/2013 18:57

My grandad worked in the snuff factory!

He died young-ish of a horrible cancer that while there was no evidence it was caused by snuff, I have my suspicions it was.

I'm very straight laced though, I've never smoked or taken drugs. Or drink

FurryDogMother · 09/07/2013 20:33

There's more to a smoking addiction than the addiction to nicotine though - so snuff wouldn't necessarily scratch the itch. I tried it, once, back in the dark ages (for some reason it was part of my leaving present from an old job - I'm still not entirely sure why!), and wasn't keen. I'm now a vaper, as opposed to a smoker - happily using a vaping kit (NOT a ciggie lookalike), off the smokes and delighted to be free of the (actually around 4000) nasty chemicals in cigarettes. Nicotine itself is apparently no more harmful than caffeine, so maybe snuff IS better than smoking.

maddening · 09/07/2013 20:45

some Scandinavian friends did it -the had stuff they put on their gums (Is that the same stuff you mean) - over time it had left a hole in their gums though?

SquinkiesRule · 09/07/2013 21:11

Snuff does put you at risk for nasal cancer. Nasty stuff.
Chew, that you put in the side of your mouth and spit gives you a very high risk of cancer. My BIL uses it, and now his sons are doing it too, Nasty!
