It's dry. It'll be fine, stop worrying. Smile

doradoo · 08/07/2013 18:08

Absolutely fine - don't worry!

BrianButterfield · 08/07/2013 18:08

It'll be fine - can't remember the last time I looked at the date on a packet of pasta.

LEMisdisappointed · 08/07/2013 18:09

frogspoon · 08/07/2013 18:09

If it's not mouldy, it's fine!

notapizzaeater · 08/07/2013 18:09

I wouldn't have even looked at date - its dried

SauvignonBlanche · 08/07/2013 18:09

I would.

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/07/2013 18:10

It's dried and you will be cooking it at high temperature. I wouldn't even have checked.

SecondStarToTheRight · 08/07/2013 18:11

Best before dates are guidelines for when the product starts to not be quite as good but will still be safe.

Use by are when it could cause health issues - mainly perishable things like meat and dairy.

Hope that helps

Binkyridesagain · 08/07/2013 18:11

Pasta has a sell by date?

Things you learn on MN.

cheerfulweather · 08/07/2013 18:13

I would use it. You will be fine.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 08/07/2013 18:15

If its dried then yes.

Tee2072 · 08/07/2013 18:16

It will be fine. It only has a sell by date because it's required to. Dried pasta never goes bad. That's sort of the point!

Kahuna · 08/07/2013 18:16

According to Martin Lewis (The money expert), if a Best By date is 3 years hence the date you bought it then in reality it will still be ok 3 years after the BBD?saved me loads since I read this. I no longer look at BBD?s ? Use By dates, I follow the sniff test?..still here ? guts in tack!

LadyMaryQuiteContrary · 08/07/2013 18:18

They have to put a sell by date on stuff, it's a legal requirement. They even stick them on pickled onions Confused Pickling preserves things, as does canning and drying. A sell by date is for the shops so they know when to 'sell' stuff by (stock rotation etc). It's not the same as 'used by'.

littlewhitebag · 08/07/2013 18:20

It will be fine. I would never check dates on dried pasta.

TheWrathofNaan · 08/07/2013 18:31

Does rice go out of date?

LadyMaryQuiteContrary · 08/07/2013 18:36

I'd be careful with rice and wouldn't allow it to fester in the cupboard for too long. Beans tend to go weird as well, a lot harder so take longer to cook.

TheWrathofNaan · 08/07/2013 19:40

Thankyou Lady
