The other thread got me thinking - is skin only getting damaged if it changes colour? I'm blonde haired, fair skinned and I used to go pink if I so much as looked at the sun. However, 6 years ago, I underwent a course of UV treatment on the NHS for bad psoriasis and I swear it's totally changed my skin! I spent all day Friday at Hyde Park and, although I'd applied sun cream at 7am, I realised once we were in there that I'd brought an empty bottle with me so couldn't reapply. So all day in the sun and I've not changed colour one bit. I saw countless people with angry looking shoulders and arms but it's literally not touched me, and it got me thinking that I can't remember the last time I tanned even a little bit.

So, is the sun still doing as much harm even though I appear to no longer tan? How is it even possible to not burn?? I only applied factor 20 once at 7am and was out til 11pm in the middle of a big field! My friend had applied the all day, factor 50 stuff, is a lot darker skinned than me and she has tan lines. I'm some kind of freak aren't I? Grin

I'm not convinced that sun damage is only visible...I could be wrong but I imagine we need to protect our skin regardless of whether we tan or not.

The sun saw me today for about 3 seconds with factor 50 on and I'm a bit crispy! Ok I exagerate...it was slightly more than 3 seconds but not much!

Sun damage isn't always visible, when they put that UV light thing (or whatever it is called) on your skin you can see the damage on skin that looks nice and clear in normal light.
