garden sound systems - why? (unless you're utterly selfish)

I watched a garden makeover program last week and was shocked that you can now buy sound systems for your garden (yes, I know I have a sheltered life....). I just think the whole idea is so anti-social, why should your neighbors have to share your taste in music?

Ooh sounds fab.

CrispyFB · 07/07/2013 16:44

YANBU a million times over, but there are people who would disagree

You can buy a detached house to protect yourself from some of it, but unless you're in the middle of nowhere, you still can't escape other people's musical choices it seems.

It's funny, I really don't mind the sound of children playing, lawnmowers or any of that - it's just the sound of Not My Music that drives me batty! and windchimes at 4am

TigOldBitties · 07/07/2013 16:45

Where was it from? And what's special about it? This would be good for parties.

Cherriesarelovely · 07/07/2013 16:46

Yanbu. We cannot get the students at the back of us to understand this concept.

PlasticCups · 07/07/2013 16:47

My next door neighbour always has his music blasting out, that dosent bother me too, but he only has 2 CDs, Abba's greatest hits and Alison Moyet. So I tend to try and counteract it with Radiohead.

A garden sound system sounds fab to me.

It was on Love Your Garden with Alan Titchmarsh. The speakers seem to be disguised as rocks or something. I just feel it would be a lot cheaper to paint 'Fuck you' across the front of your house, as it gives the same message.

Its not a new thing though is it, they have been about for years. People quite often play music in their gardens that's just a way for people with too much disposable income to make it more convenient.

Lets face it there's probably only a week or two each year where the weather is pleasant enough to make it worthwhile. Personally I think music is easier to ignore than the arsehole in his small plane who twirls around above my garden every time the weather is decent.

My parents neighbours put in a slide and their small children used to sit at the top of it looked over the fences and shouted into the neighbouring gardens, often enough to become annoying.

Just because you have music in your garden doesn't mean it needs to be loud music.

TigOldBitties · 07/07/2013 16:54

Will look into it.

The speakers not the painting. That won't be able to fit with my large "I'm a cunt and I don't care" decoration.

Majority of people aren't as anal as those on mn.

deepfriedsage · 07/07/2013 16:55

Oh I saw that it was on today. Yes I thought it was strange to have speakers in the garden.

wonkylegs · 07/07/2013 17:01

Depending on the situation they can be anti-social or absolutely fine. To be honest though the same could be said for garden lighting.

zoraqueenofzeep · 07/07/2013 17:05

Should be illegal to inflict your music choices on others, it's always those with the worst taste that insist on doing it.

twofingerstoGideon · 07/07/2013 17:05

YANBU. It's antisocial.

thebody · 07/07/2013 17:07

Depends entirely on where you live though doesn't it.

Not everyone has neighbours.

FruOla · 07/07/2013 17:08

YANBU. It's a ridiculous idea - unless you live in the middle of nowhere with no neighbours.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 07/07/2013 17:10

I would prefer that than fucking windchimes Angry

jacks365 · 07/07/2013 17:32

My nearest neighbour is half a mile away but I don't see the point in them its cheaper and easier to just take a portable stereo out.
