Pooey paddling pool. AIBU to ask YOU what to do as I haven't a clue?

A child had a runny poo while in our paddling pool this afternoon. Its a fairly large one (the paddling pool I mean). I had been intending to empty it gradually over the course of the week via the joint methods of filling up the watering can and letting a bit gradually drain out from time to time but I feel those options are no longer open to me.

I have no idea what to do with upwards of 700 gallons of faeces infused water less than 3m from the house. None of the parents present offered any real insight on how best to remedy this situation.

I have the fear of the Googles on this one, god alone knows what I'd even put as a search term anyway. AIBU to ask a load of strangers what to do when as a grown woman of sound mind I really ought not only to know what to do, but to have already done it?

Sorry :(

You only need 1 drop of tea tree to sterilize a bath full of water so a couple of small bottles should have done the trick and as it's natural, no harm done.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 07/07/2013 16:01

add the tea tree when you fill it up next time

surely if you are having the pool filled for any length of time (and a huge one by the sounds of it) you need some sort of chemical in it to kill bugs? I am not talking about the 3 foot wide 6 inch deep things you can empty every day.

in which case, with the chemical there to kill germs, all you would need to do is keep a fishing net nearby like they do at the swimming pool.

Everyone is a lot more worried than I am about a bit of sloppy poo.....yes the kid might have a serious sort of gastroenteritis and so you would all be right but te change is not ..... But I don't disinfect my garden every time an animal leaves me a little poop gift.... (and the fox crap stinks!)

Id empty the pool into the lower bed and call it "fertiliser"

What am I missing here?

(ok I don't have small kids either but even when I did they knew not to put garden things in mouths, and wash hands after pay/before meals)

This happened at the local swimming pool, child had massive diarrhea in the teaching pool. And instantly legged it towards the MAIN pool, where somebody with sense stopped the little poo-bummed swimmer before making another splash.

The teaching pool is now closed for a cleanup, and the lessons take place in the main pool instead.

They tell everyone to get out of the water and close down for an hour at least in the public pool near where I live if anyone poops or pukes in the water. They add extra chlorine and run the water through a whole pump cycle as well as using big nets to remove solid matter. You never know who has live polio vaccine in their system or hepatitis, etc.

I like your style, ISee Grin

Yeah Theas18 I came round to your way of thinking in the end. I think my concerns were generally about the poopy water getting close to the house more than anything as there wasn't enough soakaway in the vicinity of the pool. This nutty dry hot weather has been my saviour.

I disinfected and rinsed the thing twice and am now feeling like I have undergone some kind of life test this weekend.
