...to find clothes shopping disheartening?

Have been shopping today for some stuff for work, and although it was quiet - am guessing everyone with common sense was out enjoying the sun! -it was just rather demoralising:(

I know I could do with losing some weight but do I really need every lump and bump highlighted to me in multiple changing room mirrors? And aibu to think that if the lighting was softer -thinking deep twilight! - I might buy more, so it would be in the shop's own interests to cater to my neuroses...

And the fact that your hair looks like a rat's nest after dragging multiple dresses over your head doesn't help either.

AIBU to wish I could afford a personal dressmaker to minimise the trauma? Or should I just take it as the kick up the ass I need to get doing some exercise? !

YANBU. I could have written your post (except I enjoyed the weather today and didn't shop).

I only buy clothes online now, after years of trauma at the hands of the clothing shops.
I am way too old and fat too be bothered with traipsing about, trying on, being subject to snotty looks and snidey glances and feeling inadequate next to everyone else.
I much prefer to browse in comfort in my jamas and try on at home. Even the faff of having to send the odd thing back when I get it wrong is still much less hassle than actually having to go shopping would be Grin

It's sounds like the problem is within yourself. Not the shops, clothes or other customers. If you were happy and confident in your appearance and size it wouldn't matter what the lights were, mirrors or anything else.

I'm not being mean. Just saying you either need to learn to love yourself just the way you are or make changes that will help you to have more confidence.

In this weather the only clothes that seem right reveal all.
I was dragged into Primark because it's what I can afford for DD and that was a special kind of hell, too. (as hot as Hell, definitely)

I would rather try things on and be able to see they looked shit than buy them and then realise when I went out in public they looked shit!

I totally sympathise, nothing is more depressing right now than clothes shopping (maybe clothes shopping with a stick thin friend?)

And why oh why do they have harsh overhead lights. I know my cellulite is hideous you really don't need to point it out more with your crap lighting.

LimitedEditionLady · 06/07/2013 21:18

I second your post and i have started to loathe shopping.

deeplybaffled · 06/07/2013 22:00

Didn't one shop - maybe hennes?- have adjustable lighting? I thought it was great and am surprised it didn't catch on!

Me too - I hate shopping for clothes for me. Nothing ever looks right.
Dd has a great wardrobe

soontobeburns · 06/07/2013 22:07

Im fat (size 24) but I think I look great most of the time. I would say YABU you need to work on your confidence first.

NoComet · 06/07/2013 22:16

and why oh why do changing rooms have lighting that shows up my grey hairs more than any where else on the planet.

It just says doesn't buy clothes, visit hair dresses quick!

I'm on board too - nothing fits me yet after having DS 6m ago. I had every intention of losing weight once baby arrived by getting out walking with the pram each day but my little sod darling hates hates hates his pram so it just hasn't happened. along with my love of everything I shouldn't eat

My current wardrobe consists of 2 pairs of trackies, a pair of jeans, several vest tops and a couple of baggy sweaters.

I soooo have to go shopping for new things but am really not looking forward to it at all.
