To think I SHALL wear what I want!

Went to collect DD from a school club this afternoon as I finished work early (DH usually does this)
Whilst waiting for her, a Mum of a child in another class looked at my shoes and said to me 'Not very appropriate shoes for the school run.' (I was wearing my high wedge sandals which I love!)
So I said I'd just come from work, so she asked what I did, and when I said teacher she did a cat's bum face and said 'Not very appropriate for teaching either I should think.'
Luckily DD appeared at that point Grin

Just amazed that the woman thought it right to make comments about my choice of clothes. Judgy pants.

Look her up and down and just say 'Really?' in an incredulous manner.

Or Just tell her to bugger off.

oopsadaisymaisy · 04/07/2013 20:48

Ignore. I hate when people do that. Cheeky witch.

LemonBreeland · 04/07/2013 20:48

How incredibly rude to comment once nevermind twice. You needed that mn phrase did you mean to be so rude?

onetiredmummy · 04/07/2013 20:49

It is a playground, so:

'yeah well I can change my shoes but you can't change your face'

saunter off in fabulous shoes

Itsnotahoover · 04/07/2013 20:49

I had a comment about being over dressed for the school run once when I dived in to get him after driving 150 miles back from a job interview! I was fully suited and booted and they are used to seeing me in my scruffy, but still thought it was a bit rude!

overthinking · 04/07/2013 20:50

I did ignore - but DH and I have been thinking of some pithy comebacks which I should have said!

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 04/07/2013 20:50

OOO the cheeky mare! I'd have said something like "ah well, I have other shoes, pity you have no manners" or worse or something similar - it's always the way when someone is rude out of the blue though - I think of loads of fab retorts hours afterwards when it's too late...
She's probably just in awe at your style and taste and jealous cos she hasn't got a pair Wink

SanityClause · 04/07/2013 20:50

Do you know this woman? Or did some random just come up and decide to criticise your fashion choices. Because that's just bizarre.

Khaleasy · 04/07/2013 20:51

You should have said "well, normally I wear my thigh high leather boots but it was a bit warm for them today so I settled for the wedges"

SanityClause · 04/07/2013 20:52

There's a phrase in French for those pithy comebacks that you can never think of at the time. But I can't remember what it is.

ChasingDogs · 04/07/2013 20:52

Maybe she reads the daily mail and would expect you to be wearing combat boots and a stab vest when in proximity to a school and the yoofs within.

Aetae · 04/07/2013 20:53

She actually SAID that? Wtf? I wasn't aware there was a school run dress code...

overthinking · 04/07/2013 20:53

Sanity I know her to say hello to but not her name/names of her children etc as her children are younger.
Very bizarre as you say!

yabyum · 04/07/2013 20:54

If you're a teacher you should have thicker skin, surely?

Yonihadtoask · 04/07/2013 20:54

Cheeky fucker!

I would find some higher shoes for next time. Plus your shortest mini skirt.

Blimey.

SanityClause · 04/07/2013 20:59

Yes, Yoni, and a low cut blouse, and a fascinator in your hair, and fishnet stockings, and a bow tie. And ask, in a very concerned voice, if she thinks it's suitable for the school run.

The judgy cow.

BadgersRetreat · 04/07/2013 21:07

i think i'd have looked her up and down and said 'well at least i made an effort' and walked off

the cheeky mare

Minoan · 04/07/2013 21:11

Tell us what she was wearing and we'll have ago at that to cheer you up!

Minoan · 04/07/2013 21:12

Sanityclause - l'esprit d'escalier

DeathByTray · 04/07/2013 21:13

That's what's wrong with this bloody country.

Teachers wearing the wrong shoes!!!

Grin
overthinking · 04/07/2013 21:16

L'esprit d'escalier is exactly me!
I know Death my choice of shoes really impacts upon my ability to teach Grin

One of the people that thinks they could easily be a teacher if they wanted to...

Hope you are laughing now tho, how odd!

juniper81 · 04/07/2013 21:21

I'm sure you looked fabulous. As my mum would say, she's just JEALOUS!
