Not to have a 'Sunshine, happy always smiley' personality?

I don't walk around with a permanent smile on my face, I have a dry sense of humour and I guess I'm one of those that always see's the glass half empty.

I think I'm just naturally miserable! But I'm not ignorant with it, I don't ignore people & I do have some friends! I'm 'happy' with my kids obviously, not going to oppress my sarcasm / misery on them!!!

My hubby seems to think I'm not normal & should smile all the time - it's strange I seem to be resenting him more each married year...if there's ever a discussion or dispute (amicable i may add) between us or friends he always sides with their view & attacks me for mine.

I don't have a great deal of self esteem, in fact I probably have a really warped point of view of myself but I've never thought otherwise.

So is there anything really wrong with being - 'dry'? Miserable sounds too awful!

People who walk around with big smiley faces and talk in an over-animated, "I'm so happy" way make me stabby.

Save it for when it counts.

DP is actually a bit like the OP's DH, except that he's always going on about me being sarcy and aggressive. He also sides with others.
I just tell him to STFU when he starts. He is a real misery....proper glass-half-empty. Also, when he's doing the siding with other people thing, I call him on it, especially when he's bullshitting.

Wow, thank you for the replies....

Triumph - ha ha, that made me lol!

No I'm not all doom & gloom everyday, I can have a laugh, but I'm just not one of those people who are constantly smiling. I don't say hello to people I don't know - however if they say hello to me, I will say hello back.

In my childhood photos I'm rarely smiling - I look grumpy! So I'm guessing its just in me! I can be funny, I can make my kids laugh & vise versa & there are many days when I make my husband laugh, he just doesn't return the favour as much these days....he's a real people person (nothing wrong with that) he doesn't get it why I dont walk with a smile in the the street. Maybe if I win the Euro tonight I may just manage to do that.

People who are perky make me want to hit things with hammers. Them, usually.

Feminine · 05/07/2013 11:20

My inner self, is more introvert and does not feel like smiling.

But...I think most people don't see me that way, as I always smile at everyone and seem cheerful!

Its a little connected to manners for me, its a bit of a fake face that helps things run smoother. I don't believe I have any right to make people feel uncomfortable with a scowl.

My face in repose is quite bitchy. I try hard to overcome that with my invented persona.

So...YANBU . We all do as we have to to get through the day! :)

Personally, I tend to find those bright, bubbly, bouncing types to be a little bit limited thick, actually, as well as downright irritating.

FunLovinBunster · 05/07/2013 11:32

Perky people get on my tits.
The older I get the darker my personality.

minouminou · 05/07/2013 11:45

I'm not a trivial sort of person, though, and I like to think I'm very kind, and good at seeing things from other people's point of view, and being empathetic.

However, I just cannot "get" depression. I know it cripples people, and I'd never dream of saying snap out of it and such like. I just don't understand it....no idea what to say, just what not to say.

Does he walk about with a permanent smile?

Does he maybe think women should spend all their time looking comely and welcoming and brightening up the world? smile love, might never happen Angry

Do you perhaps suffer from Bitchy resting face?
