To not want 6 year old DD to dress like a teenager

My first AIBU post please me gentleGrin

DD2 has just turned 6 and is very tall for her age, already 132 cm. DD 1 was the same as a child but has only managed to equal 5'3'' as an adult

Anyway I am fed up at trying to get what I want for Dd2 in the shops and have started to make some things for her

Due to her height she is in 8+ collections of clothes and I want her to still look her age and not like a mini teen . I will have no issue with her dressing like a 13 year old when she is 12 just not at 6 Ffs

Anyone else?

Am getting to where I might see how far off an adult 6/8 she is.

Me too.

YANBU dd is nearly five and wearing 6-7 clothes, shes slim but very tall; i used to get loads of her baby clothes in matalan, baby/toddler were fine as soon as we got into the five plus range it all went wrong - shorts should not show arse cheeks on a four year old.

The dresses were really short so i tried the next size up which were huge round the chest and still shorter than last year xmas dresses. I don't think i am particularly prudish but i'd rather her not look like a baby street walker :l

DD3 is nearly 8 and wears size 7-8 clothes...all right and proper. BUT she is only on the 9th centile for height according to health record book. I sometimes think clothing manufacturers simply have no idea how big the average 7-year-old is. At her age DD1 and 2 were in size 11-12.
Boden have recently stopped doing Mini Boden past age 10, so, yes, they have to shop from the teen section, so don;t have much from there now. We like Joules, though it's not cheap, and have had good things (plain ordinary clothes!) from Sainsbury's, M&S and George at Asda, but you have to fight your way through plenty of tat to find them!

Boden have annoyed me by making the JohnnieB range down to age 8, and stopping the miniboden range at a lower age! Hmm
V annoying, and tbh most of their skirts/dresses are far too short- my DD has been wearing 2 years above her chronological age since she was 3.

Joules is nice, but again small sizes I find. Gap can be nice, but some seasons are completely dire.

TKMaxx I like as they stock quite a lot of american brands which are more little girl-like in larger sizes (Jillians Closet et al). TBH these days (7yo) she tends to be in H&M and sainsburys stuff, as plain as possible, and quite a bit of the H&M stuff is boyswear- they have a good range of colours in the boys' stuff, and the trousers are half the price of girlswear!!

So glad it's not just me getting cross and frustrated at girls clothes!!

I was dreading my dd turning 6 because I knew decent clothes from this age up are so hard to find. I'm now buying her far less clothes but from more expensive retailers like Vertbaudet. Mothercare also go up to age 7/8 although the nicer clothes are again for younger girls.

Retailers - if you are reading... please look at your clothing ranges for the 7-10yr old girl. We don't all want to dress our daughters like teens!!!

scrappydappydoo · 05/07/2013 22:28

Sainsburys TU range all the way - especially when they've got one of their frequent 25% of sales on. A really good mix of good quality, age appropriate clothes with the odd bit of glitter to satisfy the tacky urges my 7 yr old has.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/07/2013 22:30

I found Matalan were the worst when DD was at the in-between age.

Remotecontrolduck · 05/07/2013 22:35

Girl's clothes are a nightmare.

I've never understood why a 'childrens' range is from the ages of about 7-15. That's an absolutely huge gap. Why would a 7 year old be wearing the same clothes as a 15 year old? Surely at 15 you'd not be seen dead in the children's section? Plus you fit into adult stuff?

There's a big gap in the market for a range stocking 7-12ish clothing, that is nice but not too grown up.

Just thought - Land's End are good for simple dresses and tops, and being American, sizing is generous! (Trousers and skirts can be a bit big round the middle)
