To want a serious thread for serious clothes lovers?

Or am I in a minority of one?

I love clothes. I love thinking about clothes for myself and even more for other people. But I just can't seem to find the right tone for Style and Beauty. Am I the only person who might want to talk about WHY people choose to dress in a certain way, and what it means - rather than simply wanting a list of shops?

No, YANBU. That sounds like an interesting thread.

It's off topic a bit, but since breastfeeding my books have gone tiny. I love being smaller up top, it's given me a huge amount of freedom in terms of the way I dress. Now it's about wearing things that make my heart go YESS! Instead of just looking for things that minimise my huge bazookas/don't make me look like a medieval wench in a tavern.

At the moment I like pops of colour, like the bright pink blazer I bought last week and pink lace-up brogues (not worn together, I'd look like jimmy crankee). I like grey and black and cream and animal print and boat necks and loose drapey things to wear with leggings. I can't find jeans that look nice on me. I've also got a thing about neon and big fat gold accessories.

How about you OP?

Somethingyesterday · 04/07/2013 11:43

Well... my first thought was that I'm unlikely ever to buy a bright pink anything - but in truth if it was reduced from ££££ to £ I might be tempted. I have a great weakness for bargains.

I guess what I want is a thinking thread rather than a "shop and show" thread. Do you think it's impossible?

I don't understand what you mean.

I wear clothes that are nice deep colours that compliment my skin tone and that suit my body shape. I love the colour brown and have all shades and prints of brown cardigans, scarves, dresses and shoes. I think it stems from my Mum always dressing me in pink and bright shocking colours as a child. (Is this the kind of thing you mean?)

I actually think you'd get some really interesting and thoughtful replies if you did post this in S&B. I've read some brilliant threads on there - if it was all "lists of shops" I wouldn't use it.

LackaDAISYcal · 04/07/2013 11:59

YABU

start one if you want one

libertine73 · 04/07/2013 12:00

yes, have you tried starting one in S&B? There's loads of massive fashion fans there, that take it very seriously.

Somethingyesterday · 04/07/2013 12:05

Fakebook I honestly hadn't thought about exactly what "should" be included. Smile Just anything there doesn't seem to be room for elsewhere.

So for instance I guess you're saying you dress for personal satisfaction rather than "am I too young / old / tall/ for this" or "What will my friends think?"

I suppose I've been quite surprised by some of the things I've read in S&B. But I don't quite know how to phrase it....

I'm probably more likely to post on the introverts thread!

Monkeymamma I managed to delete half of my reply, sorry! Wanted to know why you had chosen the things you mentioned. In the sense of - did you buy them purely for you or as a statement of intent.

Hopasholic · 04/07/2013 13:17

I don't know what you mean really?

I buy clothes because I love em! Simple. It makes me feel good when I put on clothes which fit well & feel nice.

I have recently lost two stone and dropped 3 dress sizes and I am thoroughly enjoying being back in a 10/12

Although I'm not sure if you want me to dig deeper into why it makes me feel this way? I guess I'm a big head who likes compliments Grin

Somethingyesterday · 05/07/2013 00:08

Ok. As you were. Clearly a consensus that IABU!

So like the philosophy of clothing choice? Confused

Somethingyesterday · 05/07/2013 00:53

.... or why grown women who run their own lives might feel they need "permission" to wear an item of clothing. It's generally jeans here, but it could be anything. And why there are posts asking "what 70 year olds wear" .

Why do we get these strange ideas of "otherness"?

You should look up the Frugal Fashion thread on S&B. There is a lot of discussion on there about why we shop, motivations, buying weaknesses etc.
