I'd rather wear no watch than be bit to death by little blood sucking irritants.

Also to add to LifeofPos post there. They hate pipe smoke.

Citronella DOESN'T work either. Avoid wearing dark colours and wafting them away. The more you move the more you attract. Keep cool. They are attracted to sweat and heat AND because I have extensive knowledge of the gits up our caravan we get plagues of them and have googled till rhe cows come home if you kill one you attract more.

If it's a long term solution you can by a machine that sucks them in but they are very costly and really for residential use. Not ideal for camping. We are saving up for 1 for up our caravan. Cheapest is £500 Shock

Where I go dog walking by the canal, I have seen lots of the tiny swarms which haven't seemed to fancy me - thank goodness-, but I snap off an enormous dock leaf and fan through them. So far so good.
It seems to be the ones that appear when the sun goes down that are the worst

After the swelling of my leg went down with ABs, to my horror I saw the bite mark - 2 fang puncture holes side by side on my ankle like a baby vampire but on my ankle instead of my neck Shock

We have a machine. It does make a difference and I just love looking inside at all the little buggers trapped by it. Fair makes my day. Grin

I'ma a midge magnet. Swear by Stop Bite (available in small shops in Scotland an online). DH gets bitten but does not react - no surprise as they are more attracted to females - yes, our sweat attracts them. DD (biologist) suggested to DH that he take one of MY socks, one I'd worn all day or all night, and hang it on a bush nearby. Feet have more sweat glands than any other part of the body, you see. She's confident they will swarm to the sock, smelling sweetly of my fragrant sweat, and will leave him alone. Which is pretty much what happens when we are in the same place anyway, so she might be right. Please can you try this and let me know if it works?

If I win the lottery I will buy one of them midgie machines. I'll even set up a webcam so that I can watch them being sooked up while I'm doing other things

I want to visit W Scotland but this really puts me off. Staying indoors and wearing covering clothes in summer does not a holiday make!

Come on Murray, cheer up the Scotlanders (and me) Tennis :) Tennis

if we could just persuade Salmond to ring Scotland with them... he'd have his republic in a heartbeat.

aldiwhore · 10/07/2013 11:57

Clove oil.

It stinks, but I've not been bitten yet this year (touch wood) and I'm usually an itchy mass around now.

aldiwhore · 10/07/2013 11:58

Re Heavy Make-up... that could make you sweat more, so could be a problem.

But if it's this hot, you'll sweat anyway I should think.
