To be upset by skull picture on Facebook

There's a fascinating photo doing the rounds on Facebook at the moment. It's a skull which has milk teeth in place and adult teeth ready to come. It is really interesting but I can't look at it without thinking that the skull belonged to a child who died aged five or so. Have hidden the post, obviously, but am I being a bit over sentimental for it to upset me?

I remember watching a Meet the Ancestors archeology programme, and they found a skull of a child which had milk teeth and, when they lifted a loose tooth out one, you could see their adult tooth coming through underneath. I know what you mean because it made me feel quite queasy, as the growing / losing of teeth is something so associated with growing, alive, children I guess.

I found those skull photos fascinating and a bit unsettling. I do think you're being a bit of a sentimental fool (me too!), but I don't think that's particularly wrong so long as it doesn't get in the way of education and research or the curiosity of others.

I don't think those skulls are necessarily models. Even if they are, they're modeled on the real thing.

I assumed it was a ct scan of a live child rather than a dead child.
