about woman in shop

I was in the supermarket today with my 2 sons aged 1 and 2 and a half. My eldest son was pressing the stomach of my youngest and I was about to tell him to stop and move his hand away.

All of a sudden this woman says to my son, " that's naughty!" I looked at this woman and she said to me " he was pressing her stomach" ( I didn't correct her and say he was a boy!) I said I know im dealing with it. She then said "you need to tell him" i issue to the woman that I will tell him, the woman had an attitude to her voice so I said I will tell him, I also said that she had no right telling my son off as it was nothing to do with her and I was sorting him out, she was still criticising so I told her to mind her own business and I walked away.

I don't like confrontation but she really annoyed me. Don't get me wrong I don't disapprove of my son being told off if he plays up but it should be done by myself and not some stranger in a shop! would anyone else have said anything? I also felt she was criticising my parenting.

I don't know if i would have had courage to say anything but i would have been fuming at her behaviour.

YANBU. Absolutely none of her business. If he was doing something that directly affected her then fair enough but in this instance, nope, interfering busybody.

That's what I thought crapbag( love the name!) I wouldn't have had a problem if it was interfering with her but it wasn't and I was dealing with it anyway. She took me by surprise at first so I wasn't going to say anything but when she kept criticising so I had to say something and I was fuming.

You are right, she was interfering.

ninah · 04/07/2013 00:02

ah shrug it off
you did the right thing, let it go now

Chunkamatic · 04/07/2013 00:02

She sounds crackers TBH.

benjerriesandme · 04/07/2013 07:46

I know its not worth thinking about now, just can't believe she thought it was ok to interfere with someone elses parenting. I would never tell someones child off for doing something that was nothing to do with me.

I cant help myself in those situations, I seem too lose my temper. I probably would have spouted something like 'My children, my rules, my way' given her a snake of the head and a tut sound and placed my back firmly in her face.

Ignore her hunni. Women probably has never had kids!
