to feel this unbelievably tired recently?

Ok so there are early mornings as ds starts his day between 5 and 5.30 but I go to bed at about 9 and try and do sitting down jobs when he's napping at lunch time but I feel overwhelmed with exhaustion the last couple of weeks to the point where I wondered if I was acidentally pg. Then I had af so that stopped that worry, except that the only time I have felt this tired since I recovered from cfs is when I was in the first trimester.

Am currently waiting for large mug of coffee to kick in.

aibu to wonder about pg or is that just absurd?

YABU to wonder, if you're experiencing similar symptoms. However, there could be other reasons. I've been feeling the same recently, having reasonable (ish!) sleep but still feeling permanently knackered. I'm waiting for results from blood tests to check my iron levels as they plummeted during pregnancy and that was the last time I felt like this too.

wishingchair · 03/07/2013 09:12

You could be anaemic. Worth going to the doctors to check out. In the meantime try eating iron rich foods. Caffeine isn't the solution!

ClayDavis · 03/07/2013 09:12

Not absurd. POAS. And if its negative a trip to the GP for some blood tests I think.

Sirzy · 03/07/2013 09:14

What is your diet like?

wem · 03/07/2013 09:14

Sorry, my post should say YANBU to wonder...

CakesAreNotTheAnswer · 03/07/2013 09:15

Or diet is quite high in iron. Lots of red meat, eggs and green veg. My levels stayed at 13 throughout pregnancy. Maybe I should poas just to rule it out.

You mentioned recovering from CFS in the past. CFS is a serious illness and not one you would get for a few months (you have to have it for a minimum of 6 months for it to be diagnosed in the first place). How long did you have it for? I think you might need to look at your history with that. I think you may have to be extra careful as a result, or it can come back to bite. Getting up at 5/5.30 is very early if you have that predisposition.

Whatever the problem is, I think it is imperative to take extra rest and take it as easy as possible, think rest, rest, rest. Can you change the 5 a.m. start for example?

I would consider seeing my GP.

fanjobiscuits · 03/07/2013 09:44

Get GP to check vit d levels too (or just make sure you get a bit of sunshine)

valiumredhead · 03/07/2013 09:44

I am shattered atm, Hay Fever is wiping me out, I feel just like when I was first pregnant, that real tired to your bones feeling. The weather is bizarre atm too, hot one minute and muggy the next.

Drhamsterstortoise · 03/07/2013 09:46

Could it be your thyroid?I had postpartum thyroiditis and still have underactive thyroid.Remember being absolutely exhausted and took a few months to feel right again

CakesAreNotTheAnswer · 03/07/2013 13:16

ds is 18 mo

I'm outside for roughly 3 hours a day so vitD should be ok

I had cfs for 8 years. recovered in 2009.

Would love to change the 5am start but ds insists. I go to bed early and dh and I take turns but the nitty gritty of the matter is that he has to go to work and can't afford to be tired or we affect his chances of progression and we need the money. He still goes over and above to try and get me my rest though.

RubySparks · 03/07/2013 14:47

Agree worth checking thyroid - under active can leave you very exhausted. Do you mind if I ask how you recovered from cfs?

hamilton75 · 03/07/2013 18:13

Another vote for thyroid. I was diagnosed not long after my son was born as I had been feeling ill for ages. Insist on a blood test. It can be very serious undiagnosed.

ARealDame · 03/07/2013 18:29

Cakes, CFS can return I am sorry to say. Maybe you are getting warning signs, I hope I'm wrong.

I am not quite clear about the "DS insists" on 5 a.m. starts? How old is he? If he is a toddler, you could try and change his pattern of sleeping, or take naps yourself.

You really need to do what you need to do to try and stay as well as you can. CFS does come back, especially with the pressure of looking after a child.

(I guess it could also be the heat, hayfever, etc, as people have mentioned.)

Great that your husband is supportive. Maybe speak to your him too about your fears on this. If you had CFS for 8 years you will know how important rest is. Good luck.

ARealDame · 03/07/2013 18:31

Sorry, I've just seen 18 months as age! A very demanding (if lovely) age. I really think your CFS history is relevant, so please thinking about resting and getting more support.

CakesAreNotTheAnswer · 03/07/2013 23:59

The lightening process was the cure. almost like magic.

He insists inasmuch as he wakes up at that time no matter what we do and stays awake ditto. We've moved bedtimes and nap times around, held off feeding him until 6.30am , kept everything very boring until 6.30am , tried to boob back to sleep, sling back to sleep, rock and sing back to sleep. Nothing.

and now we seem to have a vomiting bug so I'm still awake. Bleurk.

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 04/07/2013 06:16

What do you mean by 'sitting down jobs' whilst toddler naps? Are you doing jobs all the time? Take a break, nap yourself if necessary.

Other than that, look at diet? Bread makes me lethargic and using caffeine/sugar to perk up causes a crash later.

Justforlaughs · 04/07/2013 07:40

If he's napping - so should you be. Go to the GP and ask for a full check up. Lots of possibilities that may/ may not be easy to solve. Anaemia is one, but if they do a blood test (which they should!) ask them to check your Ferratin levels as well. My iron is very low, I'm not (always) anaemic but my ferratin levels are extremely low and it took about 15 years for doctors to find this out. I now take lots of iron every day as I can't store it.

Snugglepiggy · 04/07/2013 08:27

Same here with Ferritin. Was shocked to find out how iron deficient I was a couple of years ago because although I had heavy periods I assumed my iron rich diet - meat, eggs ,loads of green veg etc would be sufficient. But it wasn't and unless I take a supplement it plummets.Had lots of tests and thankfully nothing serious but I can feel when it's dropping as my energy levels go through the floor, when it's up I'm turbo charged and feel wonderful.
Would request blood tests and hope it's soon sorted. Also agree with Jelly re the cake and coffee boost and crash.Gave up coffee for a couple of months -not easy! - and now limit myself to a couple of cups a day.

magimedi · 04/07/2013 09:23

Very obvious, but are you drinking enough water? Being even mildly dehydrated can make you feel really tired.

CakesAreNotTheAnswer · 04/07/2013 13:53

I think I really do need to go to the gp. I have a fairly low carb diet only drink caffeine on days I have to and drink lots of water.

By sitting down jobs I mean I'm self employed and that's what I do whilst he sleeps rather than hoovering or cooking etc. It's not really optional.

OP posts:
newestbridearound · 04/07/2013 15:22

I would definitely echo going to the gp and having routine tests done to rule out things like deficiencies.

I suffer with CFS, and for a long time felt that I had recovered and was basically leading a normal life. Then I had a serious relapse and now I'm very ill again. I sincerely hope that it isn't a relapse and that you have fully recovered- the lightning process does heal many people but I also have friends who did it and then months or years later ended up crashing again. Take extra care of yourself and rest lots, hopefully whatever is causing it will only turn out to be a blip and will pass.

ARealDame · 04/07/2013 15:24

What newestbride said.

CakesAreNotTheAnswer · 04/07/2013 15:45

sigh. If only I didn't have to walk to the other side of town to get to the gp!

OP posts:
newestbridearound · 04/07/2013 15:57

Can you get a taxi? That's what I do for everything, even the shortest of journeys. Or get someone to take you? Hopefully it will turn out to be something treatable and you'll be feeling more energetic again soon. Could also just be a virus in which case a few weeks of being kind to yourself will help.
