Hi all,

Didn't know where else to post this...
I'm having a massive clean out and came across tons of pre-pregnancy bras which I no longer fit into. Some of these are in a very good condition.... so can I donate these to an Oxfam shop ?? Or AIBU to think that someone will want to use a used bra ? Blush

Thanks ! :)

Take them to a charity shop or to a bra bank.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 02/07/2013 17:10

Don't m&s or somewhere do a bra recycling service where they send them to third world countries?

Someone please tell me I'm not making this up.

I used to volunteer in my local hospice shop, and donated bras in good condition were put out for sale. Think they had an underwear basket.

If they don't want to sell them to customers, they will get some money back for them from the rag man.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 02/07/2013 17:10

Oxfam will take them happily - they have a scheme.

MamaChubbyLegs · 02/07/2013 17:10

I donated mine, but only because I know my local shops sell them. They were new-ish. Take them down in a seperate bag and ask?

ShadowStorm · 02/07/2013 17:13

I know there's some charities etc that like old bras.

We've got collection bins in the ladies toilets at work at the minute for us to put unwanted but still good condition bras in, the poster over the bin says they'll be sent to parts of Africa where bras are in short supply. Can't remember the charity name right now, though.

So, to get back to the point, I think it's okay to donate useable bras to charity. But if you're not sure, you could always call into the shop in advance to ask them.

KirjavaTheCat · 02/07/2013 17:14

Depending on your size and the brand, they may do well on ebay. I'm quite a large bust and I find bras my size sell very well used.

Also my local red cross have a bra bin, 50p each, so you can donate them in some shops.

LineRunner · 02/07/2013 17:14

Definitely. Any clothing bank or charity shop will take them.

If they are good as new then a local refuge would also be glad of them.

greenhill · 02/07/2013 17:15

Sainsbury's recycle them in-store too.

soontobeburns · 02/07/2013 17:17

Breast Cancer research takes them. We collected over 800 in our girl guides Shock

shewhowines · 02/07/2013 17:17

Pretty sure there was a collection bin in House of Frasers underwear department.

wow those girls go through loads of bras or they just raided every female they knows drawers Grin

landofsoapandglory · 02/07/2013 17:24

My postlady is collecting them at the moment. She is doing it for againstbreastcancer.org

LineRunner · 02/07/2013 17:27

I've got a few that are actually brand new (long bra-sizing story) and I'm going to send them to Awks at SSAFA for the boxes they make up at their refuges.

So loads of good potential homes.

DarkWinter · 02/07/2013 17:51

Refuge and Women's Aid will also take bras.

wonkylegs · 02/07/2013 17:55

Our local cancer research took my bra hoard and sold them (for quite a lot when I peaked at them hanging up) I had lots of different sizes all barely worn due to my magically expanding chest.

www.brarecycling.com/

decaffwithcream · 02/07/2013 18:08

There was a link on here before to a charity running a campaign to send them to the developing countries and part of the reason was that they have found females are less likely to be sexually assaulted if wearing bras. I don't have a link but that finding certainly stayed in my head.

Pannacotta · 02/07/2013 18:41

decaff I thought of that and thought my link was to that charity but its not.
This is the link I meant to post

They recycle them in Bravissimo too and they money raised goes towards the eve appeal for gynaecological cancers
