To take my little baby to a parents evening at her big sisters pre-school

My daughter goes to pre-school and there's an induction meeting followed by AGM. I'd like to attend but have a 6 week old breastfed baby. Would I be unreasonable to take her with me? Technically my husband could go instead but then he'd miss our oldest daughters bedtime and he wont see her tomorrow or the next day as he's away with work. (if I go I'll obviously miss her bedtime but I've been with her all day so it's less important!)

Pre-school have said its fine but what will the other parents think?

It's absolutely fine to take her. I wouldn't think twice about it.

ParadiseChick · 02/07/2013 16:51

Of course it's fine, There will be others there with their children and siblings. Absolutely not an issue.

SpooMoo · 02/07/2013 16:51

Take her. Not unreasonable at all.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 02/07/2013 16:52

Yes, take her. No one will mind at all. Smile

ImNotBloody14 · 02/07/2013 16:54

Of course take her- take your boobs too and you'll not her a peep from her Grin

RoooneyMara · 02/07/2013 16:56

I'm more worried about how you will cope, if the baby is difficult to settle.

But otherwise I can't think why on earth anyone would object? People LOVE babies. Smile

HHH3 · 02/07/2013 17:03

Of course it's ok!

I took DS2 to a meeting at DS1's school a few weeks ago. He started to get restless because he was tired so I bf him and he fell asleep.

He came to sports day yesterday and is coming to parents' evening today.

I'm a lp so wherever I go, DS2 goes as well Smile

HHH3 · 02/07/2013 17:04

Oh, and he came to DS1's Christmas show at 2 weeks old!

shoofly · 02/07/2013 17:26

Take her. No-one will mind in the slightest.

5madthings · 02/07/2013 17:30

Take her, I did when mine were little, at three days old dd went to the xmas concert at ds1's high school. I stayed near an exit so I could make a quick escape if necessary but she fed/slept the whole time. Have taken tiny babies to parents evenings etc as well, not a problem ime.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 02/07/2013 17:31

Take her :) there are always kids there

Startail · 02/07/2013 17:50

One of the last times DD2 BF in public was an 18 month old at her sisters starting school meeting.

(DD2 was still bfing long long after she started at the same school, but she got too long to do it in publicWink)

No one will mind a small baby and she's unlikely to be the only one.

NoTeaForMe · 02/07/2013 18:27

Thanks all, I thought it would be ok but I havent been in this position before so thought it would be a good idea to check!

Rooney if she gets fussy and breastfeeding doesn't work then I'll just leave. She can be unsettled of an evening so we'll see. The pre-school is only 5 mins away so I'll come home and my husband can go instead. The evening is split in two so it may be that I go for the induction and he goes to the AGM but if all is well I'll just stay.

The fussiness and the sick does worry me though, but I'll leave at the first sign and you never know your luck, she may sleep through it all!

Another who wouldn't think twice. I'd stick the baby in a sling.

intheshed · 02/07/2013 18:37

Of course! I frequently BFed DD2 at preschool meetings.

My favourite was a friend who brought her tiny DD2 to a preschool 'social night' in the pub- she plonked her on the table in her phil and teds cocoon thingy and we all got rather merry on red wine while the baby slept through it all!

NoTeaForMe · 02/07/2013 18:39

I haven't got the hang of breastfeeding in a sling yet SHarri. I did wonder about taking her in that though.

I wouldn't bat an eyelid. Or I'm lying, I'd probably actually be all over the baby Grin

OodPi · 02/07/2013 19:03

Ds has been all over in the last few weeks with school residential meetings and induction meetings. He looks around , feeds , sleeps and he's 16 weeks. No one has commented on him coming

Maryann1975 · 02/07/2013 19:26

I have taken little breastfed babies to all kinds of places, school meetings, school assemblies, school plays, a lesson where parents were invited to see how education has changed over the years, even a funeral. Not once was it ever an issue. I used to put baby in a sling and was prepared to stand at the back and sway to keep baby asleep for the duration of the occasion. I'm sure one of my three must have woken up at one of these occasions, but I probably fed them and they stayed quiet so no issue.

NoTeaForMe · 02/07/2013 21:44

Thanks all. I fed her before we went and she slept in the sling through the whole thing!

I'm doing it on Thursday!

MummytoKatie · 02/07/2013 22:56

(Mine is only 5 weeks.)

Sokmonsta · 03/07/2013 07:44

It'll be fine. I had to take twins babies to dd's school induction as despite arranging it with the school that they could go to the crèche with the older two, the teacher taking the crèche wasn't happy with me leaving the babies. Twins had been fed just before we left and were quite happy to gurgle at anyone who would smile at them.
