Don't flame me please, as going through rough time with my sister and mum fighting, so probably being over sensitive. We moved into newly renovated house around February, our sofas were damaged by flooding when some plumbing went wrong and a friend offered to loan us one that she had in storage, as we couldnt afford to replace, husband didn't want too but her husband was really insistent that they never use and we could borrow as long as we like, she then sent a text on Friday asking can we have our sofa back please, replied yes and DH took it yesterday but feel upset and embarrassed am I making fuss over nothing

perhaps she has got some money worries and needed some cash and wanted to sell it, or maybe something's happened to hers and she needs it back.

whatever it is, it's hers and this is unfortunatly what you get when you borrow stuff.

That said, I would have thought a friend might have given a bit of notice or at least explained a bit why they couldn't if they couldn't.

Best thing to do is to shrug, see that she did you a huge favour for 4 months and think that she must have a reason for suddenly urgently needing something she said she never used and just get comfy on your beanbags until you sort this out with the plumber.

oh, meant to say, you can pick up suites for next to nothing if you're not picky. and sometimes even for free.

Something like that just to do you for a few months?

Cherriesarelovely · 03/07/2013 12:22

I get why you feel put out by this....it sounds as if the text was quite curt as if to say "excuse me!!!! Did you forget that you have OUR sofa"! It would annoy me too. Probably not enough to say something though.

imnotmymum · 03/07/2013 12:26

Have you tried freecycle get loads on there in good condition.
I agree a bit of notice maybe but if she needs it then it is hers. Depends how long you had it as perhaps the as long as you like would be a couple of weeks until you get replacement

Onesleeptillwembley · 03/07/2013 12:30

It was you whining the other day, wasn't it, saying there were marks on said sofa. Funny how you don't mention that now. What a bizarre thing to keep posting about.

Crinkle77 · 03/07/2013 12:34

When she said it was a loan maybe she was thinking a couple of months or so. Perhaps she thought that if she didn't ask for it back now then she would never get it back and that you would end up keeping it forever.

imnotmymum · 03/07/2013 12:35

perhaps the lender is on mumsnet and recognised sofa and thought sod it then I will have it back ... Grin

imnotmymum · 03/07/2013 12:37

Oh just seen 4 months is a long time sorry OP but that is extreme borrowing of something like that.

Onesleep Grin And OP have you seen the price of bean bags would be cheaper to look at ads or charity shop. My DD wanted a beanbag for her room they are so expensive even the little ones £20 !
