Does your massage therapist hug you?

After treatments, my massage therapist gives me a nice hug. Part of his service or inappropriate?

AIBU?

If I was in his girlfriend's shoes and knew he was giving hugs to clients I would probably not be very happy!

I was serious by the way! I'm single and fancy him. Should I find some inferior person instead or is it ok?

I think it's completely normal and would not read anymore into it to be honest. But then people who don't like hugs will tell you its not right.

SnoopyLovesYou · 29/06/2013 22:04

Haha nickedname!

Em... none of that.

It's usually in the public part of the place that he hugs me. Not in the private room

I don't see the big deal personally. It's just a hug! Jeez! It's not like he's grabbing your arse.
You fancying him shouldnt matter. Enjoy it!

SnoopyLovesYou · 29/06/2013 22:07

Ok so I can keep going to him without feeling that there's something sordid going on between us? That's good!

If you fancy him then he probably knows it - and he's the one getting a massage - to his ego. So it's a win win.

PoppettyPing · 29/06/2013 22:08

Ps. I'm not saying that people shouldn't say anything if it DOES bother them. But if you're ok with it then whats the harm? Hugs can be professional too.

SnoopyLovesYou · 29/06/2013 22:08

Sorry I can't be as easy going as you Poppety Ping ;-)

You are not worried about the hugs, you just want to talk about him Grin

SnoopyLovesYou · 29/06/2013 22:11

Was only joking btw PP

Yeah he should be knocking a bit off the price seeing as I'm massaging his ego ha!

LuisSuarezTeeth · 29/06/2013 22:12

Ow!

SnoopyLovesYou · 29/06/2013 22:13

I was worried about the hugs!

A friend said he was just being nice too but just wanted the MNet word on the matter. Thanks!

My masseur doesn't give me a hug but I wish he would - he's luffly!

LessMissAbs · 30/06/2013 03:20

Its wired and a bit creepy. I've had loads of massages, but would be mortified is anyone except the nice Thai lady hugged me. A hyponotherapist once hugged me, and he was both a creep, and a rubbish hypnotherapist.

Swallowingmywords · 30/06/2013 03:25

No, but my GP once did. I changed surgeries Smile

ohmeohmyforgotlogin · 30/06/2013 09:48

If you are uncomfortable with it then he should not do it. I would criticise him for not being intuitive enough to figure out your reluctance. Don't think it is standard practice. I'm a massage therapist and occasionally hug a client but I work in palliative care and with bereaved clients and sometimes it is appropriate but always instigated by client and if I am comfortable with it too. If you are not happy speak up or change therapist.

Oh and I'm not wanky either.

ConfusedPixie · 30/06/2013 09:56

I've be uncomfortable with it. Mine doesn't, I get uncomfortable when I'm not in ' the zone' and realise just how chose he is standing! My mum didn't hug her clients either.

SnoopyLovesYou · 30/06/2013 12:16

Well the first time he massaged me, I had a sore shoulder. It's normally a Thai massage so clothes on but for this one, I removed my bra. He stayed in the room (mat on floor) and held up a towel 'for privacy' but I'm pretty sure he saw my breasts. Maybe he didn't. Anyway, thought that was a teensy bit inappropriate too but the massage was amazing so kind of forgot about that!

Wow a hot hugging masseur - I want one!

MusicalEndorphins · 30/06/2013 12:26

No, but my hair stylist does.

SnoopyLovesYou · 30/06/2013 13:16

HeeHee Diary yes I always come away from my appointments with a massive smile plastered across my face ;-)

Surely it would be difficult for him to hug you without your participation ?

SnoopyLovesYou · 30/06/2013 15:13

I think we've concluded that he's just really nice and of course I participate in the hug only too willingly. I started this thread to work out if it was ok. Never had a therapist hug me before that's all. Maybe I'm a bit socially challenged at the moment. That's what Mumsnet is for innit? ;-)

He should advertise on Nethuns, that bunch love a good (hug).
