Replacing something broken...

I'm on a pta and recently the school borrowed some equipment of ours, but unfortunately broke it due to improper use. It's going to cost at least £90 to replace and the school have said they won't pay. Am I being unreasonable to be quite cross about this, its not a big school and raising significant funds is hard, feel like we're being treated like a bit of a money-pit at mo.

Have they said why they won't pay? May need more details here.

What item is it? You may be able to reclaim the money in the small claims court.

Pancakeflipper · 29/06/2013 17:54

Who said they won't pay? The HT? The Governors?

Is it essential to replace it or can you turn round to them and say its broken so we don't have one.

Or the next fundraiser are to pay to replace it and therefore the school loses out because they won't get other stuff.

Lack of money. Hard to dispute really, as I have no knowledge of their funds.

@Pompeii, nice idea, but would ruin relations between school and pta.

@pancakeflipper, the deputy head and we do have a couple more (its a gazebo), think you're right about the next fundraiser being to buy a new one!

You could put out an appeal via school to see if any parent has or knows of someone who has a gazebo they no longer need and could donate?

Then if no joy it comes out of the fundraising

But I would go to the HT and Chair of Gov ( and the governors Funding team for "advice" to see if there can be an agreeable resolution like they go 50/50 or the full whack.

Thanks, @pancakeflipper, I'll certainly try both those approaches. :-)
