To buy the nice furry rug not the practical option with imminent newborn?

Have fallen in love with a nice soft rug but OH says I will regret buying that one instead of our alternative more practical choice. His argument is the furry soft one won't hold up to various projectile newborn type attacks as well as the alternative.

The practical one is just an average carpet-y rug and still says dryclean only.

We want a rug of some kind for the living area as it's quite hard flooring and both are about the same price.

AIBU and likely to regret it if we buy the lovely furry version?

We bought all sorts of impractical stuff - and the newborn was fine on it all.

The toddler he now is however........

Go for stuff that makes you happy - you'll be staring at it while pacing with a baby a fair bit over the next few months!

Oh get the furry one! Just don't change a nappy on it - that newborn poo stains like curry. A bit of projectile milky sick can be sponged off though Grin

Get the furry one. We had a carpet style one when DS was born and we soon found that our old bones didn't like spending a lot of time on the floor playing with him in the baby gym! We bought a nice big soft one from IKEA and DS loves playing on it and when he falls over from sitting up he doesn't hurt himself.

Yep I agree - get the furry one - much softer for the baby to play on, and gives them something to 'grab' when they start crawling!

Thanks for really helpful replies. Balance definitely firmly tipping in favour of the furry one then...

It's a rug - you can send it away to get cleaned so you might as well get what you want. If it were a carpet, I'd say be practical.

My Dsis had a lovely furry one, the youngest loved trying to eat bits of fur off it. Got to the point they had to get rid of it until she was over that hoover phase.

Hoppin, that reminds me of a lovely green fluffy Mr Men rug my DM got out for PFB to lie on. Had to put it away again after his poo turned green and fluffy too ...

We got a lovely furry one, once ds was old enough that his sick was 'adult sick' with lumps In it was guaranteed that he would throw up on it, it's horrific trying to get the bits I suck out of it and the smell doesn't come out either.
I would probably side with your Dh sorry, go for the fluffy one in a few years.
