Ffs! I am reasonable intelligent but come on!.

Am I ever going to understand it?

I eat more on SW than I ever do when not on plan. I enjoy my food more too as I make more effort to make it nice.

It is easy once you get your head round it. Fill up on free food, then add in your HEs somewhere along the line, then have some syns somewhere along the line.

Shepherd pie, use fry light to fry the meat and onion, also use an egg rather than milk or butter to mah the mash. Make a lush gravy by boiling and simmering a couple of onions with just enough water to cover them, add a stock cube and blitz with a hand blender.

gymboywalton
what proportion of the people the NHS dieticians meet have never had a BMI over 23?

because most of the skinny fit people at my gym skip breakfast or lunch too.

those who go to NHS dieticians exclude those who successfully manage their weight

NuggetofPurestGreen · 27/06/2013 19:24

I'm not on SW but could someone explain the 'unlimited' free foods which seems to include pasta rice and meat - how can these be unlimited?? I've asked people who are on it before to explain and they didn't know....

minibmw2010 · 27/06/2013 19:50

I think it's down to having lean cuts of meat and no or v little sauces on pasta, rice or potatoes. So the idea being you won't eat loads if its bland.

StuntGirl · 27/06/2013 20:01

I think its supposed to teach you portion control, and a better understanding of your own body's limits. Theoretically its free to eat as much as you want, but the idea is you learn not to eat excessively.

Bakingtins · 27/06/2013 20:01

You have to have a third of your plate as fruit/veg at every meal, so that leaves you 2/3 to be lean meat or simple carbs. That's a pretty balanced meal. You eat 3 balanced meals a day, you lose weight, without having to weigh stuff out. I think for most people they don't gain weight because they eat too much volume of food, but because they eat crap the wrong things. It might backfire if you got one of the "Supersize" people from the telly on it....
I disagree that it has to be bland. I'm not on the plan any more but I still cook some of the recipes - they are lovely.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 27/06/2013 20:07

So is it not really unlimited then??? More a third of your plate for each or two thirds for one? As in you can't then fill up the third again can you? It makes more sense that way but maybe the use of unlimited was confusing me.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 27/06/2013 20:10

Actually bakingtins I remember a woman on Supersize vs Superskinny who actually ate pretty healthily (balanced meals etc) but she just ate HUGE portions. Like mixing bowls of cereal for breakfast and vats of homemade veg curry for dinner. And she didn't really understand why she was fat cos she was eating healthily. Probably an exception though as you say.

Bakingtins · 27/06/2013 20:29

It's only unlimited in that you don't have to weigh it all out. They are not encouraging you to eat stupid size portions, but there isn't a rule that says you can't have seconds or vats
The cereal and milk would be healthy extras though (measured amount) so no mixing bowls of that allowed!

Succubi · 27/06/2013 20:40

I started SW last week and I am struggling. It's complicated and I put 1/2 a pound on in my first week Hmm

NuggetofPurestGreen · 27/06/2013 20:50

Oh yeah the woman on SSvsSS definitely wasn't following SW ha ha. I just wondered how things like pasta could be unlimited. Cos someone could eat loads and loads. But I'm a calorie counter so I would be suspicious Smile

MoominsYonisAreScary · 27/06/2013 20:55

I've lost 4lb this week!

Mintyy · 27/06/2013 21:05

Well done Moomins!

Pleased to see I am not the only one who finds it complicated.

Its not extra easy, to my mind, when you have to look everything other than the free foods in a book all the time!

MoominsYonisAreScary · 27/06/2013 21:08

Have you tried the on line app? Apparently it's really good, I haven't yet .

Viviennemary · 27/06/2013 21:13

There's also a really good weightloss site called Minimins with forums for all the main diets and quite a big section on Slimming World. I've not been on it for ages but it's very good for all kinds of questions on all things for weight loss.

Tubemole1 · 27/06/2013 21:34

Last year I lost 3st on it but slipped and put it all back on.

I went back on it and losing about 2lbs a week, which is on target. I have six stones to lose.

Mintyy, once you get your head round it its easy to do. I try and stick to healthy extras and free foods. I fart out all the fruit and veg I eat! Blush If I do better than 2lb a week I treat myself to a treat after weight in, like as pint of lager (11syns) or snack (oddities, 5syns). I have as bowl of porridge for breakfast which usually lasts me until my meal break at work. I've got used to not adding sugar to anything, but top with bananas or sliced apples instead.

It fits in well with family life, except dd gets a full fat pudding like creamed rice for afters, or I make her something homemade. Kids needs fats, not adults. My daughter is skinny as a whippet. She doesn't even know I am dieting.

Interestingly my husband has also subscribed and despite being immobile for five weeks due to an ankle injury has lost a stone in that time. Grin Smile

roses2 · 27/06/2013 22:48

God, my MIL is on this diet and its absolute crap. There is no such thing as free food - it's quantities that make you put on weight!!!!

StuntGirl · 28/06/2013 00:51

Losing more than 2lbs a week isn't generally recommended tubemole, I hope you're not aiming for that.

cronullansw · 28/06/2013 01:07

Eat less + Move around more = Lose weight.

Simples.

It is not rocket science, you do not need to pay people to tell you this.

Rulesgirl · 28/06/2013 01:38

Just eat when your properly hungry, stop when your full like a slim person does. Its just food. Not good food or bad food, just food. These companies are just there to make money out of people. If any of these diets truly worked long term, forever then you would never have anyone dieting again.

Rulesgirl · 28/06/2013 01:42

Just read through the thread and see that a lot of ladies have done slimming world or other, lost some weight, started overeating on "forbidden" food and then it goes back on again. Then they decide to start the diet again. Seriously!. Its the diet that doesn't work...not you. Its diets that make you gain weight in the first place.

Bakingtins · 30/06/2013 11:47

I did it to lose baby weight, lost 1.5 stone and have kept it off for 2 yrs. My friend lost 5 stone and has kept it off. I don't think I really had "ishoos" with food in the first place though.
You can't treat it as a "diet" you have to change the way you eat in the long term, and I think SW encourages you to do that. The fact that many people go straight back to their previous habits and put the weight back on is more to do with their underlying issues with food, and perhaps SW is not very good at addressing these.

Jengnr · 30/06/2013 11:50

My husband has lost three stone doing it. So far in the same time frame I have lost eight pounds.

Guess which one of us likes wine at the weekends

Meerkatwhiskers · 30/06/2013 11:51

YANBU. I lost all understanding when they went extra easy. Really? extra easy you say? Hmm

Darkesteyes · 30/06/2013 17:09

Extra easy =more complicated way of measuring food with this third of this and third of that crap. So therefore a higher chance of making mistakes and taking longer to lose the weight so Slimming World makes more money.

If they really wanted to make it easy then it could all be weighed and measured by kitchen scales.
And before anyone says "well you could work that out yourself once you have gone through the trial and error of this third of bollocks ...eermm no thats what id be paying SW for! And as for this "unlimited" thing. You arent supossed to take that literally???!!! I suggest that the SW directors look up what that means in the dictionary. It means what it says. What if you get someone who DOES take it literally Someone with a similar personality to Sheldon Cooper for instance. Its ridiculous.
