To think Game should refund (even a voucher for their store) for an item they sold me that doesn't fit the computer I bought it for

Hi

I bought a Controller from GAME which was supposed to be for the WII.

I got it home and found that it doesn't fit the WII or the WII u (box says control for WII Console). DP took it back to the store last Monday (we bought it the Saturday before) and told by the Manager "It has been opened so we can't refund". I don't understand how they can say that they can't refund.

We bought the controller for a WII console that we bought in Game and a lot of other stuff for WII. I wouldn't have picked the control up if the box never had WII on it.

I've Emailed Game and Tweeted them. Email said take it to the store (which won't help as we opened it) and Twitter they ignored me.

AIBU to want a refund for an item that is not fit for the purpose they sold it for even though I opened the box (No wire on show so I had to open the box)

And the staff are utter idiots if they didn't tell you this! They don't have to refund because it is fit for purpose but they could at least have advised you on how to use it! Rubbish customer service!

Sorry I only skimread before posting, after I had posted I scrolled up and saw several people had suggested the same thing! However hopefully the picture will help clarify.

Just to clarify OP:

Where did the controller say it is supposed to plug into the console itself? Was this on the box or were you told verbally? Is it possible this was a misunderstanding?

When you say it is "much smaller than the remote square" what do you mean by the remote square?

xylem8 · 28/06/2013 09:12

Of course you are entitled to a refund- it is not fit for purpose!

StuntGirl · 28/06/2013 10:18

Not correct xylem. If she's simply misunderstood how to use it then she's not entitled to anything. If she's been missold then yes, she should raise merry hell!

And do you honestly expect the staff to explain how to use every product they sell? How patronising would most people find that! I suspect they assumed the OP understood what she was buying if she didn't ask any questions about it.

Bunnygotwhacked · 28/06/2013 10:26

come back op this has bugged me all night

YoniBottsBumgina · 28/06/2013 10:30

No not at all but when she took the item back saying "This isn't for a wii, there's no socket for it" then it should have been explained and if possible, demonstrated. I've done this loads of times, it's possible to do it kindly without talking down to people - after all if they've never used one before and it didn't come with instructions how are they to know?

StuntGirl · 28/06/2013 12:01

I do agree, but it depends on how she approached the staff and explained the problem.

What did you say to the staff when you went back OP? Did you just say "Its the wrong controller, I want a refund" (in which case they'd rightly tell you no) or did you say it wasn't working/faulty/etc? In that case they should have probed for more information to try and solve the problem. Often 'faulty' items are just not being used correctly so it's easy to sort out.

Demonstrations are nice, but often there is not the time or the equipment available to do it.
