Man keeps putting traffic cones on road outside school

There is a road outside my dd's school where parents have to park to do the school run. A man who lives opposite this road has started putting cones up on the raised curb opposite his house to stop people parking. These cones take up about 5 parking spaces. The situation with traffic and parking before this happened was chaos anyway and now it is even worse.

Are there any legitimate reasons why he would be allowed to do this? It seems to me he doesn't have the right to stop people parking and this has now been going on for about 3 months.

you could just move them; there is an offence called 'obstructing the public highway' so if he comes out huffing and puffing remind him of that.

An obstruction means it impedes or prevents progress, not prevents parking. If anything, by preventing parking he is reducing obstruction, improving vision and therefore making things safer for the children.

Why should drivers who have paid their road tax be forced to walk from 'two minutes' away?

It hasn't been "road tax" since 1955.

If its a private road it might be his road.

The school bus system from The us would put a stop to the school parking nightmare. At my secondary school kids from some of the villages got bussed in as there was no public bus route in that direction. If the school is unsaleable for so many I'd get onto them about a bus service.

You know this already, but he has no right.

It may not be obstructing a public highway but it can be regarded as fly-tipping or littering.

We have a disgruntled resident who doesn't like us parking on a grass verge opposite our school. There is no dropped curb, footpath or double yellow lines or any other parking restrictions.

The alternative is that we park on the road which would be far more obstructive.

When he last asked me not to park there I said "I would bear it in mind".

I park there. Because I can. I could go round the corner and park outside his house, I guess, but that would just be mean Grin

I understand your problem, you have to take the kids to school and need to park, I get that. Should people put cones out, No but have you asked why they are doing it, probably not cause it is not your problem. Well the problem is this, You can park on the road but you shouldn't park on the kerb, it causes many safety issues especially when the house owner wants to leave and join the main road, I know from experience as so far have nearly been wiped out by traffic because I cannot se due to cars parked on the road or kerb on many occasions and it will happen. Also if the side of the road has grassed area then it becomes mud and looks awful would you like that, No probably not. Try talking with the residents and school to try to sort it out or come to an arrangement. I am one of those residents and so far as I have said I have nearly been wiped out on many occasions and have been told if I don't like it then I should move. How would you feel

a) MOTHERFUCKING ZOMBIE THREAD

b) OP said no-one is parking on the kerb

c) it's the school run, for 20 mins a day, twice a day. I put up with it on my road, it's not the end of the world

d) you made me start reading this thread before I realised IT WAS 3 YEARS OLD!
