How old were your kids when you ditched the car booster seat?

Thanks MsVestibule. Always good to hear I know more than my 8yr old. Sometimes I do wonder!!

when dd first started high school a boy was so small he had to use thebooster poor kid, OP i think you should heep your dd in her seat untill she reaches the height it is for her own safety and it is the law now, years ago it was when their bums got too big for boosters Grin I think it was up to 4 or 5 when they were not in them

DD is 8 (only just) 129cm and still in a high back booster, we have had issues with other kids calling her a baby because of it, most of her class no longer use them, the few that do just use the backless ones. Really sick of kids using the baby insult, DD is one of the youngest in her class and gets really upset about it.
Just wish there was a firmer law about this. 135cm is just too small in many cases.

My 7 year old DD has just hit 135cm (she is the tallest in her year group) and she is aware that she can now legally go without a car seat. However, we have told her that that would only happen if there genuinely wasn't one available for her to use, and then only for a short journey. I've tried her in the car without a booster, and the seat belt is nowhere near in the right place - it would cut across her neck. She will be staying in her booster for a good while as yet. We haven't had any issues with name calling, as she is the first of her peer group to get anywhere near the height required. However, she will be told quite clearly that safety comes first if she ever mentions anything about not using the booster before she is ready to do so.

DD is six and weve just swapped to a booster seat as we couldnt wedge her in her high back any more. Shes about five pounds off the weight limit for the booster and four cm off the height for not needing it. She is however long of back and fits lovely without the booster so we are only using it for legality.

My DS stopped age 6 as he was already 137cm, my DD is 5 and 130cm so will probably stop at 6 too, but they have friends who are much much shorter so it's definitely a height rather than age thing.

I was 5 foot 8 at 12! If she is over the legal height, I'd let her stop using it.

my dd is over the legal height at age 9 but when I tried her without the booster seat the belt didnt sit in the right position so she is still using it.
