To not really be missing DS

victoriousEaglet · 24/06/2013 15:04

N/c as a bit Blush

Away on business, first time I've ever left DS, who is 2
It's a whole week and I thought I'd be pining dreadfully
But...five days in and I am really not Shock

It's nice, I can meet colleagues for a drink after work rather than running home for nursery pick up and bath-time, or have wine and room service all by myself in hotel and unlimited wifi for MN-ing

I have looked at his pictures and smiled at his cute little face, had a little chat with him earlier, but I'm loving being away!!

Am I heartless??

Of course not! Enjoy the peace and have a lovely cuddle when you get home.

CreatureRetorts · 24/06/2013 15:36

YABU. Sorry! How could you not...?

Xmasbaby11 · 24/06/2013 15:38

I suspect I would feel the same!

StuntGirl · 24/06/2013 15:55

Not in the slightest. Stop worrying.

MatersMate · 24/06/2013 15:59

You know it will end that's why! Glad you are able to enjoy it, know I would!

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 24/06/2013 16:11

I'm guessing you've left him safe and being well cared for. When you get home ou will realise how much you missed him, it's not like you're saying you want to give him up for adoption and never see him again!
He's fine, enjoy the sleep full nights and toileting in peace! :)

BrokenBanana · 24/06/2013 16:13

Yanbu! It'll give you time to just be yourself, not a mother, a wife or a cleaner, must be lovely!

Enjoy the rest of your time and your snuggles with ds when you get back :)

ChunkyPickle · 24/06/2013 16:19

YANBU - I find it hits on the way home, a kind of urgency to get home and see him again, but until then the freedom is great!

HappyJustToBe · 24/06/2013 16:23

I miss DH and DD if they go away but if I'm the one having a jolly then I don't really. Enjoy the time away!

fedupwithdeployment · 24/06/2013 16:27

YANBU. I have a 5 day trip coming up in 2 weeks, and I am really looking forward to it. I will be in the Middle East, it will be stupidly hot and Ramadam....but I will be able to swim in the pool in the evenings, and I will enjoy the heat, and I will have a lovely weekend with the children when I get back.

Probably not much Wine but I won't need it Grin

Enjoy your time!!

OlyRoller · 24/06/2013 16:33

YANBU!

bonkersLFDT20 · 24/06/2013 16:35

This is good timing for me to read. Am going away for 6 days tomorrow and am in the nightmare phase of trying to get myself organised (prepare talk, get all flight crap together, pack), get the household organised (school admin, where and when each child needs to be during the week), and trying not to think too much about leaving little DS (age 4). The big DS (14) will be OK and as for DH...I think the time apart will do us good!
I know as soon as I leave I'll be fine as I'll be in work mode and I know they'll have a fine time at home w/o me nagging and clearing up but it's still hard.
And as soon as I'm in LA I'll truly make the most of sleep (though the jetlag means you ping awake at 5am raring to go, most annoying) and only having myself to think about. It's all part of being a Mother I suppose.

PoppyWearer · 24/06/2013 16:38

YANBU, my 2yo DS is a whirlwind and even a couple of hours away whilst I take DC1 to something at the weekend can be bliss.

I had a couple of nights away from both DCs recently and missed them far less than I expected. For one, I could sleep.

AnyFucker · 24/06/2013 16:41

I have never pined after my kids when I am not with them

I don't understand why one would not relish the "me" time

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 24/06/2013 16:44

I had this recently. Went away for 2 weeks and didn't miss DD at all. I didn't miss anyone in fairness.

LastTangoInDevonshire · 24/06/2013 16:46

I've never understood those people who jump in on a thread saying that they couldn't POSSIBLY under any circumstances leave their DC until they were past puberty (you get my drift).

You enjoy it - I certainly did !

SupermansBigRedPants · 24/06/2013 19:31

I was so psb with ds but the 5 days he was at the PILs in england were fantastic Grin he was about 16 months and i finally relaxed a tiny bit Wink i still worry more than i did with dd but ds has chest problems and is a wilder - needs constant watching/telling/distracting.

I wouldn't feel bad, we all deserve a bit of 'me' time cliche but true

StuntGirl · 24/06/2013 19:59

God I relish me time when I'm just away from my partner sometimes. I mean, yeah I guess eventually I would have missed him not being there Grin but a week to myself was bliss.

Icelollycraving · 24/06/2013 20:29

Yanbu. I would love to go away. I am secretly v jealous of women who get to stay away from home. Dinner cooked, huuuuge glass of wine, bubble bath & uninterrupted sleep for a week Envy

Mrsrobertduvall · 24/06/2013 20:31

I try and go away 3 times a year without dh and dcs.
I love it.

snooter · 24/06/2013 20:31

It's good to spend time apart from time to time. Good for both of you.

victoriousEaglet · 25/06/2013 05:32

Grin still having fun, but yes, grr to waking at 5am raring to go!!

DogsAreEasierThanChildren · 25/06/2013 08:06

YANBU. I always love going away for work - it's such a rest compared with being at home. I'd go away for a night every so often just for fun if DS wasn't such a dreadful sleeper: I feel guilty leaving DH to cope single-handed.

dreamingbohemian · 25/06/2013 08:39

YANBU

It's not that you don't miss DS, it's that you don't miss the hard slog

And really, it would be pretty irrational to miss the hard slog

Enjoy your time!

nenevomito · 25/06/2013 08:43

Nope not a bit.

I love being away from my children for a bit! Just not often enough for my liking really.
