to want to blow off sports day?

It's sports day, with the activities starting in 15 minutes. I'm exhausted and have a busy evening with Beavers for ds2 tonight.

I grew up in America and sports day is not something that we did. I guess I don't "get it." I have no desire to stand on aching feet watching my kids run races while trying to keep 4yo son under control. I was busy shopping and running errands all morning and I just want to sit until time for the school run!

How bad a mother am I?

Last year, like I said, I didn't go.
I had told ds2 I wasn't going, it was all good.

One of the other mums spent 45 minutes texting me am I coming? I am late. Ds2 race is about to start. I missed ds2 race. But it was ok because she cheered for him. Ds2 looked sad that I wasn't there. But she told him it was ok, she would support him. And it was such a shame mummy had to go to work and not see his race.

Ds2 is 9. He didnt actually mind too much that I wasn't there at the time but it wasn't exactly helpful.

Oh, tantrums you just reminded me of last year's last day of school assembly. My 3yo was at nursery at a different primary than the other two. They were breaking up at noon for a last day assembly. I always went jogging while he was in nursery. So, I was running along when another mum pulled up in her car and asked "aren't you going to the assembly?"

I'd planned to run 10k and then take him home at noon as usual. I was sweaty and smelly and my legs were splashed with mud. I hemmed and hawwed and she said "don't you want to go?" in a shocked and puzzled way.

I felt guilty so I went.

My son was sitting on the floor down front and didn't even see me. I was embarrassed to be so sweaty and dirty crammed in between other parents.

The assembly was long. Every kid sang or recited a poem.

At 1pm, I had had enough and stepped over everybody all embarrassed so that I could take him home for his long overdue lunch and nap!

Sports day to be endured and not enjoyed. I loved it when it was cancelled but you should go.

Tantrums and Katy, glad to know I'm not the only one!
