To not want to have to clean urine off the toilet after male colleague uses the ladies loo at work?!

Someone help me calm down please! I feel IANBU but I really don't know how to deal with this. Small office, just me, my husband (who I work with) and 2 other men. My husband has never ever used the ladies loo, I'm pretty sure I know which one of the others did it. Just went in and the seat is up, covered with pss, disgusting! I have refused to touch it but am now seething (and bursting!) I don't want to even mention it to dh as he will just clean it for me and it's not his job to clean up other men's pss either.

Really want to confront suspect but fear I will cry and be dismissed as hormonal and pregnant (may be why I am particularly upset as I really don't feel I should have to deal with the mess, or walk to public loo which is cleaner, or hold it in!)

This man also belches frequently, smells, never washes hands after using the loo even when he's been in there 20 mins, generally quite revolting. He has no respect for women in general and I really want to sort him out, any suggestions?!!

Was thinking of sending an email (eg, 'whichever one of you just used the ladies toilet, please clean it and use the men's in future') and copying in other colleagues who aren't in today to make them aware and cause maximum embarrassment. I cant really go through 'report to manager' type lines as we are a very small company and boss is very non-confrontational unless it's something very important which I guess this isn't...grrr!

Sorry but I think you should be an adult about it.

No-one should have to put up with messy toilet users, so mention it to the Manager and ask him/her to put a sign up in the toilet.

Birdsgottafly · 24/06/2013 13:10

It is important, it is a health and safety issue. If you didn't clean it, who would?

I would be surprised if the cleaner didn't complain about this.

The boss, needs to be prepared to have to address issues, it doesn't have to get confrontational, you are adults and are expected to respect your fellow workers.

Relaxedandhappyperson · 24/06/2013 13:11

Send an email asking who is now a lady?

Mabelface · 24/06/2013 13:11

Speak to the manager. It's unacceptable to have to clear up someone else's piss, and it is important as it can affect staff morale. In our place, we're approaching our manager about a member of staff who cooks fish in the microwave in the staff room and doesn't clean it afterwards. bloody stinks.

MrsCosmopilite · 24/06/2013 13:12

My DH had to clean up shit on a toilet seat, the floor, and a wall at work after a group of special needs visitors had come in, and their carer had not adequately supervised them.

The supervisors have been informed about this on several occasions yet still it happens.

Can you fit a lock to the ladies loo and make sure you hold the only key?

ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 24/06/2013 13:12

I agree. You should pass this to the manager to deal with. I know that you said the boss isn't the confrontational type but they're going to have to be! The loo and the personal hygiene are both management issues and you have the right to demand that something is done. If the boss can't deal with such things then, to be frank, they've got no business being the boss!

If they persist and if you are the only female in the building and therefore the only one to use that toilet, you could always request that it is kept locked and you hold the key. But that wouldn't be ideal.

Buchanon08 · 24/06/2013 13:52

Thank you all for your responses...guess I'm not the only one who has to deal with this sort of thing. I'm still undecided whether to clean it and get on with it or leave it in it's disgusting state to show boss in the morning. Will have to make up my mind soon as my pelvic floor muscles can't take much more!

There was once a case of wee-covered loo seats at an office I worked in. We reckoned it was someone who hovered rather than sat down, but didn't aim very well, so the site manager wrote a poem.
"If you don't sit down to pee
For goodness' sake wipe up your wee"
Maybe you could put this in the ladies' loo, or like Hecsy said, get a lock.

ICBINEG · 24/06/2013 15:42

or you could take a picture....I hear phones can do that these days...

ICBINEG · 24/06/2013 15:44

also relaxed, please don't try to insult people by calling them 'lady'. It implies that there might be something insulting about being thought to be a female, and as I am one, I can confidently say that there is nothing insulting about being female.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 24/06/2013 15:53

How is being called a 'lady' insulting? Confused

OP is the only female/lady/gal/y-chromosomed being working there... I might wonder who else used that toilet and why.

samandi · 24/06/2013 16:10

Speak to the manager/send an email/get a lock fitted.

None of those proposals are unreasonable at all, and neither are you.
