To think my neighbour shouldn't be using "Police Slow" signs for his own use?

EVERYTIME it rains. We like on a straight country road with a wide bend (60 mph limit)

His house is on the corner and EVERYTIME it rains he gets water on the sides of the road, when people drive down the road his car/fence get splashed.

He's taken to putting two of those "POLICE SLOW" signs at either end of the bend so his car/fence don't get splashed with muddy water.

It (probably unreasonably) sets my teeth on edge EVERYTIME I see them. Not to mention it gets bloody annoying having people ask "ooo what's happened down the lane?"

So AIBU or can I call 101 to report nefarious use of police property (should add he is our local councillor Hmm)

YANBU - take photos and phone 101.

Definitely local paper, this is low level corruption.

I would put money on him having stolen them, the police don't just hand out road signs to random civilians.

IIWM I would steal the signs the first chance I got and dispose of them somewhere far far away.
I would have suggested calling 101, but we had a neighbour a few years ago who used to 'reserve' his parking space when he went out with a set of those roadwork barriers, lights and all. He had definitely stolen them but didn't care as long as it saved the parking space on the road outside his house.
We called the police and it took them over 5 months to come and investigate it.
The stupid part was that he already had off road parking for two cars, he was just too lazy to manoeuvre into the drive so he liked to park on the street.

When I opened this I thought it was about the lights police cars have in their rear windows. The STOP or TURN YOUR FOG LIGHTS OFF. I'd love some of those.

Want to see how this pans out...

I'm fairly sure that the police would not have given your neighbour these signs. He sounds like an over-entitled local Councillor puffed up with his own sense of importance.

Call 101

Too right we wouldn't have given him those signs . We're short of them as it is , because we leave them at accident scenes to warn people of things like dangerous road surfaces , diesel spills and yes , flooding, and then some thieving git comes along and has them away . The cost of which goes eventually onto your council tax bill .

Personally I'd repossess them , and hand them back to my local station , but that's probably not a good idea for you . Ring 101 , and ask to speak to the local roads policing unit , because I know for a fact that not having enough signs REALLY pisses them off . And he can play the local councillor card all he likes , and it won't make a blind bit of difference .

Is the word 'are' missing from the middle of the sign?...

You could always change it to POLICE SHOW 9pm and place a sign at the end of his drive.

cumfy · 25/06/2013 02:37

Return the signs.

MrsLouisTheroux · 25/06/2013 20:34

He'll have asked for them due to 'car skid risk in wet conditions' I bet ya. :(
Our neighbours have 2 'road closed signs' they have been given by the council for when our very narrow, steep road gets icey. A good thing as road needs closing in bad weather and there is a safe route on the next road up.
YANBU though, he sounds annoying!!
