Well, if you drive a top of the range BMW, and live in a £600K house, you won't have much left over for invitations, I suppose.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 22/06/2013 19:44

YANBU to 'wonder' pretty much anything you like, you are, however, Pretty Unreasonable to start a boring thread about something so incredibly unremarkable.

You did ask.

Mintyy · 22/06/2013 19:45

aibu to think that Mumsnet is going to the dogs?

Whatalotofpiffle · 22/06/2013 19:47

I always spend a lot and put dd on them so family can have them as a keepsake collage of the year passed

usualsuspect · 22/06/2013 20:01

I spent as little as I possibly could on invitations.

I'm not impressed by fancy invitations.

LondonBus · 22/06/2013 20:02

Do you also wonder about expensive party bags. I love an expensive party bags.

Again, I wonder why some people send out bog standard ones. I have more respect for a bag of sunflower seeds than a load of Harribo and some plastic tat.

usualsuspect · 22/06/2013 20:14

I think expensive party bags are a vulgar show of wealth.

The worthy seeds and book ones just make me laugh.

LondonBus · 22/06/2013 20:19
Grin

But what if you are poor like me and do ace party bags?

MadBusLady · 22/06/2013 20:23

63p? Confused

I thought this was going to be about sportscars or something.

primallass · 22/06/2013 20:52

I am far too mean Scottish and make my own invites. Ti be honest I am more impressed when people make them than if they spend loads to get someone else to do it. I do nice party bags but cheaply (the last lot were Hello Kitty mugs that cost 35p each in a random Asda sale bit Grin

primallass · 22/06/2013 20:52

To be honest

candygirl78 · 23/06/2013 00:30

They liked them so much that they are now selling them due to a change of theme. Along with 8 party bags for a fiver.

OP posts:
FuckNugget · 23/06/2013 01:08

Aw, I hope nobody thinks I am being 'showy' at my DCs' parties.

I do go a bit OTT maybe but only because I LOVE planning parties and making all the stuff for them. I realise this makes me incredibly sad but I pick a theme then thoroughly research it. It probably looks like I have spent way more than I actually do as I search for bargains etc.

I am currently planning DD's upcoming party. The theme is magic. I have made the invites myself and have been Pinteresting all the little touches. The planning is the best bit Grin.

All the other parents probably hate me Grin.

MadBusLady · 23/06/2013 01:12

You have the gift of joy, FN Smile Ignore all these curmudgeons who presumably write their party invites on the backs of re-used junk mail envelopes.

WafflyVersatile · 23/06/2013 01:28

£45 for 30 invites is only a 'personal choice' if you can afford it.

Fine if you have the money, please yourself but please don't claim that it's just 'personal choice' that stops others spending that.

IsThisAGoodIdea · 23/06/2013 14:18

£10 for 8 makes them £1.25 each doesn't it? Where are people getting 63p from?

flowery · 23/06/2013 15:13

The OP says £10 for 8 of each. Not £10 each for 8. £10 for 8 if each of two types of cards is a total of 16 cards.

FuckNugget · 23/06/2013 16:09

Thank you MadBusLady Smile. I do really enjoy party planning

But I would hate for people to think it is me trying to be flash Blush. I am not a natural show off, I don't wear designer clothes or drive a nice car etc.

I'm a bit worried about giving DD's party invites out now. They'll all be judging me as one of those mothers now won't they Grin.

TheCutOfYourJib · 23/06/2013 18:09

29p for 20 in home bargains, sorted.

LondonBus · 23/06/2013 22:57

I'm wondering what else the OP wonders about.

The cake? Is a bought cake frowned on? Why spend £10 on a cake when you can bake your own.

FuckNugget · 23/06/2013 23:25

Ime, home made cakes cost more anyway what with all the sugar icing and food colouring which are only cost effective if you make a lot of cakes.

Shall we wonder why people bother to throw parties at all? Why should anyone spend money on having fun Shock Grin.

BackforGood · 23/06/2013 23:36

Blimey Eternal, I hope to keep the whole party within that sort of a budget Shock

candygirl78 · 24/06/2013 13:43

No wouldn't even consider how much a cake cost. Just was surprised someone would spend that they cost so much. I normally have soft play parties now so invites are included. Although I wouldn't judge someonefor using nice invites as I would have had no idea how much they cost,.
Guess its just that things have got more expensive.

WeAreEternal · 24/06/2013 14:03

The invites I had for DS's birthday were lovely and worth every penny.

They were made by a professional crafty person and I had many comments from recipients about how lovely they were.

She also made the thank you cards, labels for the candy buffet and the party buckets (like party bags).

farewellfigure · 24/06/2013 14:14

Depends how much money you've got.
