To think this women should have used some common sense!

There have been some office moves at work, in preparation for her move one women decided to pack up her waste bin with personal items and leave it under her desk for the following morning. The cleaners come in every evening there duties include emptying the bins as the items were in the bin under the desk, it's usual place, they emptied it. She came in the following morning and completly freaked out calling them thieves and all sorts. AIBU to think she should have thought it through and realised this would happen and should have left a note stating not to empty it!

She's a chump. Why didn't she put it in a box or put a big piece of paper on the bin to say DO NOT EMPTY.

Firsttimemummy33 · 20/06/2013 19:13

What a fool- you can't put something in a bin then be surprised when it's mistaken for rubbish!

Bananaketchup · 20/06/2013 19:17

YANBU. One of my colleagues put the brand new trainers she'd run to work in in the bin to move them out of the way of the floor while the cleaner was mopping it. Then, of course, the cleaner emptied the bin. The shoes were lost forever, colleague was Angry but only with herself; the poor blameless cleaner was mortified, but while not having the sense not to put her shoes in the bin, my colleague at least had the sense not to blame the cleaner.

coughingbean · 20/06/2013 19:17

twat
oh not you op!

BridgetBidet · 20/06/2013 19:20

It was a stupid thing to do - but in fairness if everything was packed up and the items in it clearly weren't rubbish then you would think that the cleaners would have enough sense and initiative to realise that it might not be rubbish.

MerryOnMerlot · 20/06/2013 19:24

Not their job to inspect what's in every bin though BB. They've probably already seen loads of stuff in bins they personally wouldn't throw away, so not relevant. According to their job description, if it's in the bin, under a desk, it's to be thrown out.

BoomChicaBoom · 20/06/2013 19:31

Duh! Bins are for rubbish - could she not have found something else? Is it because she expecting to take the bin with her to her new office too or am I being dense? Is it a really nice bin?? Hmm

FryOneFatManic · 20/06/2013 19:39

Something similar happened at work a few years ago. When the person complained about the cleaners emptying the bin and disposing of something she'd put in there for "safekeeping" she was reminded that the cleaners contracts are specific; what's in the bin is disposed of.

The cleaners were not supposed to make independent decisions, or in some circumstances it could get classed as theft.

rainbowsparkles · 20/06/2013 19:39

Bridget, they empty over 100 bins it would be very time comsuming to check the contents of every one. Boom, it is her own personal bin everything on her/under her desk is red.

Yanbu.

SoleSource · 20/06/2013 19:44

What items were in the bin, exactly?

1Veryhungrycaterpillar · 20/06/2013 19:45

My MIL had several personal treasures thrown out because they were in a bin bag, and at my mums wedding they kept all their cards gifts in a bin bag and I had to retrieve it from the bin area outside 3 times, once put there by her DH! Bins are for rubbish, yanbu

Jan49 · 20/06/2013 19:45

I know someone who thought a plastic laundry bag left in a hotel bedroom would be a good place to store his dirty laundry and then got annoyed because the hotel washed it and charged for it.Hmm

Some people just don't think.

VerySmallSqueak · 20/06/2013 19:50

She should be ashamed of herself calling them thieves.

rainbowsparkles · 20/06/2013 20:19

Sole, she put all her stationary in and then put her notepads and other bits of paper on the top. Very, I agree, this happened a couple of weeks back and has been going on about it ever since. She can't/won't see that she is to blame and is trying to get the cleaning company to pay her back the cost of the replacements.

OP posts:
BoomChicaBoom · 20/06/2013 20:21

She obviously thought her fancy red bin deserved special treatment and could magically communicate to the cleaners that it was full of non - rubbish. Was it valuable red stuff that got chucked?

1Veryhungrycaterpillar · 20/06/2013 20:22

What would a cleaner want with her stationary, surely they can't read and write the bunch of thieving toerags

CrapBag · 20/06/2013 20:25

SIBU. Like you said, the cleaners cannot possible check the contents of every bin, just in case some wazzock has decided to use one as a storage device.

Stupid woman needs to stop accusing them of being thieves. Bloody idiot!

VerySmallSqueak · 20/06/2013 20:28

I hope the cleaning company refuse rainbow.
She's walking on a fine line throwing around accusations like that.

Of course the cleaners would see it as rubbish with papers etc on top.
They're probably pushed for time and upturn it all directly into a refuse sack without looking.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 20/06/2013 20:33

She is an actual twat. Especially as it was stationery & stuff - not terribly obvious it wasn't rubbish!

jessjessjess · 20/06/2013 20:55

First off, she is an idiot. Secondly, it's stationery, not a flipping Faberge egg.

YANBU!
