They are the wooden type white slatted type, I need to know before I buy and do not wish to spend loads of money until I hear from a expert, thanks.

Sorry but have about 12 to buy.

I prefer inside the recess. But if you don't have the money to have them fitted it can be a right pain in the arse. Most standard one won't be the right size so you'll need the cut them down. Every single fecking slat. With a coping saw. Ours in our lounge would have needed cutting one inch either end. We decided to put them above the recess and they're fine.

BIL got FIl to cut down blinds to fit inside the recesses of his giant windows in his flat. It was not a fun job as far a I can tell.

Ok I will wait till we move in, then order one or two then see if they fit without any gaps, if not we will have to pay to have them done properly.

Thank you everyone.

I prefer outside. But I have a weird claustrophobic thing going on and need the actual window as clear as possible. It makes me itchy to think of them inside the recess.

Trills · 19/06/2013 21:52

I would call the wooden things that go on the outside "shutters".

I have used click for blinds, lots of info on website and very reasonable prices.

Inside and you measure it yourself and they make allowances when they do made to measure. My DH fitted our DDs blackout blind recently and he is no DIYer!

We got made to measure wooden slatted Venetians from 247 Blinds and they arrived the next day, custom made. I was Shock

Just got a local handyman to fit them. I was a bit of an idiot though when measuring, so he had to drill into the plastic bit of the window (UPVC) which he said invalidates insurance. Hey ho. They haven't fallen down and they cost £56 including postage and look bloody amazing, would have been about £250 for the same thing from Laura Ashley.

Oh and my windows don't have a recess. If you do, you can have it fixed to the top or the back iyswim. Looks much neater in the recess though IMO. I think a lot of replies saying 'inside' think you want to put them up on the actual outside of your house Grin
