Have previously been to CP and loved it. Last time we went you were allocated your house and had no say in it, and that was fine. Now booking another holiday there and they give you a map of the whole village and you can choose your lodge, either by broad area or even down to the individual lodge number.

I am paralysed by indecision. So many factors to consider. I was all set to book the holiday tonight. Now don't think I'm up to it. Does anyone have any tips? Eg if you are too near the main pool - "sorry, subtropical swimming paradise" - are there noise problems?

Which one are you going to? I know Whinfell pretty well

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 18/06/2013 21:18

Nothing is as far away as it looks. I've been to 2 villages, a total of 4 times, in various places

The choice of accomodation is more important that where it is, so get a WOodland Lodge or above.

That said, I like to be backing on to a lake so the ducks come up and see you...

P.S

I love CP. Was there for a week at Christmas. Loved it!

parakeet · 18/06/2013 21:20

Thanks Racers but we're going to Longleat.

We never pay to choose. We just take pot luck. Always towards back/far side. But still only a 15 min cycle to main bits at most ime.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 18/06/2013 21:22

Haven't been to Logleat but I her it is the hilliest, so I suppose if you have small children cyling, you might not want to be the furthest away

Kiriwawa · 18/06/2013 21:24

As close to the village in the nicest place you can afford.

parakeet · 18/06/2013 21:24

Good point Jamie, we do.

I spoke to a guy who used to be a security guard at ELvedon. He said they had so little trouble it was boring. Noise and dissorderly behaviour, in his experience was very very rare, partly because the price of drinks is kep quite high.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 18/06/2013 21:28

I do know how to spell, honest!

OohMrDarcy · 18/06/2013 21:32

Longleat with small children - they have a land train so not too much of a problem anywhere, but we found the pine area was best if I remember rightly, woodland lodge - 5 mins walk from the swimming area - that was with nearly 2 and nearly 5 year old

HTH

MrsLouisTheroux · 18/06/2013 21:32

Yes you can choose. It's CP's way of charging even more for the shacks lodges in more popular locations.
Hideous company.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 18/06/2013 21:32

Look for one beside a land train stop and / or a playground. I think it's better paying more for a nicer place rather than nearer the centre.

MrsLouisTheroux · 18/06/2013 21:33

Popular locations around the park site that is.

MrsRPatz · 18/06/2013 21:38

We're just back from Longleat. We had villa 365 - great location near the plaza and pool complex. It was on the flat which was important to me with 2 youngish children so no complaints re walking up the hills! I'd find it on the map and pick somewhere similar.

BrianButterfield · 18/06/2013 21:41

There's no noise anywhere at CP as far as I can tell! We've had lodges on the edge before (at Sherwood) - it's still only 10 minutes to the centre and it was near the spa so it always smelt nice! A real plus point was that you could leave your car near the lodge whereas everyone else has to move to the main car park.

PoppyWearer · 18/06/2013 21:42

At Longleat, be as close as you can to the central area.

Onetwomissafew · 18/06/2013 21:45

At longleat find the path the pedestrian path that runs past the plaza, village, to the car park. Keep going past the car park and there's 4 or 5 villas on their own at the end of this path have one of those. Perfect - all flat, has own parking so car not in car park, and far enough out of it that no one walks past.

Fairyegg · 18/06/2013 21:49

Pine is nice, but anywhere is ok really Due to the land train. The trains go quite late at night, til midnight I think, so don't be to near the main route as they can seem a little noisy at that time. We always go for pot luck though.

Thanks for all the advice. I now have a confession to make. I was booking it in 2014 by mistake! I actually wanted to book it for 2013. No wonder I had the choice of the entire village.

I actually booked it and only noticed my mistake when I got the confirmation email. Fortunately there was someone manning the phones still and I managed to cancel it. Felt a right fool but she said this happens all the time.

I went back on the website to look at booking it for 2013 and, in the category I wanted (the cheapest) there was only one lodge left in the whole village. Well I booked it pretty sharpish, I can tell you. Obviously no choice about location now, and I feel absolutely fine about that.

Conclusion: too much choice can be a bad thing. Oh, and I'm an idiot. Thank you and goodnight.

Our whole point of going to CP is to be far away so that we are cycling everywhere all the time. Hence happy to be out on the outskirts as much as possible,
