To download books onto my kindle, when i already have paper copies?

Two of them were free, but i actually paid £4 for one of them and the paper copy only cost me £1 from the charity shop!!

Does anyone else favour reading on their kindles/e readers now?

I was dubious about whether i would enjoy reading on a kindle but i do. The other night i downloaded a childrens book for DD as her copy had really small writing and made it hard to read with her lamp in her bedroom. I wanted to restart a book that i had started reading a while back, started to read and just couldnt get into it (paper copy) found it awkward and it just didn't "flow" for me. Downloaded it onto the kindle last night and already gripped. I also like to be able to look up words i don't know the meaning of.

I've done the opposite too - downloaded on the Kindle and then bought the paper copy!

The whole point of me getting a Kindle was to cut down on 'proper' books. All that's happened is that I still buy stacks of them (not my fault that charity shops are so damned cheap and The Works keep doing that 3-for-a-fiver) and at last check I've got 232 books on the Kindle - yikes!

Anyone else find that they automatically tap an unfamiliar word in a paper copy now and don't understand why the dictionary doesn't appear? I've done that LOADS Blush.

Getting a Kindle Fire tomorrow...

YANBU I've done it too.

I love books & thought nothing else would compare BUT I prefer the kindle & like you, love the convenience of an encyclopedia just a click away.

I was sold, when a week after getting mine we went on holiday & no more bulky books, taking up half the suitcase & looking around at other sunbathers, struggling with their books in the wind...felt quite smug Grin. I need reading glasses but can just make the font larger on the kindle when reading outside with sunglasses on.

I do miss a beautiful book cover, though.

i love my ibook app on my phone, i wish i had a kindle fire.

still love paper book, especially in the park where i don't mind leaving it on the bench if it goes missing its only a few pounds.

I really struggled with a book i was reading as the chapters were super long and i have an annoying habit of having to read til end of chapter before i stop. Anyway like i said i was struggling (and wanted to read it as was part of a series) so i got the kindle version and was so much easier to read and i didnt feel need to read to end of chapter for some reason (whch would have been nearly double the pages as smaller).

LEMisdisappointed · 18/06/2013 21:00

not just me then Grin

The only criticism i have of the kindle is i don't find browsing for a new book easy. Still feel like browsing through bookshop/charity shop - at least browsing on the kindle doesn't have the "bookshop effect" on my bowels!

Charlie, on my kindle, it has a thing that tells you how much time it will take to read to the end of chapters. I love that!

I have to say that i prefer my bog standard kindle to DDs kindle fire, the reading screen is not so good imo

I bloody hope not, as most of my paid for books are ones I already have, and a lot of the classics too!

I have a kindle, a galaxy 10.1 and my samsung phone with kindle on both. I like the auto sync so whichever I have with me, it takes me to last read page on whichever device I last read it on!

Bogeyface · 18/06/2013 21:04

YY to browsing, I still go through the bookshop and then will get whatever I choose via my kindle.

And YY to preferring the standard kindle, feels more like reading a book than it does on my tab, I think because it is smaller and easy to hold. Plus it doesnt matter so much about putting your fingers on the screen.

CHJR · 19/06/2013 17:33

I do this the whole time. So annoying the way the paper books don't sync with my Kindle to the last page read...!
